It appears that my son will graduate on Dec 15th and then ship to A school on the 16th. Does anyone know what airport they fly out of? Trying to coordinate my flight in and out of the same airport for ease of travel. Thanks in advance.

julieanns, you are very welcome.
Julieanns - It looks like you received lots of good responses to your question. I would definitely recommend you take a flight out on Sunday as well.
If your son has one of the later Division numbers he will not have his Battle Stations until just a few days before PIR. We were driving, but did not received our son's "I'm a Sailor" call until Wed 2 hours before we were planning on leaving. Sometimes the families get to GL, before they even receive the "I'm a Sailor" call. Also, when they leave out from RTC our experience was the buses with the sailors left very very early in morning, before sunrise because some flights start out at 6:30 am, so be prepared to not have much sleep on Friday night.
Our son flew out of O'Hara, and we were driving so just checked out of our motel early, but they had a coin only toll of less than a $1.00 into the airport from our direction. We had to scrounge for change, because there wasn't anyone at a toll booth to take the money. Also, pay attention to which parking area you park at O'Hara - if that is your airport. They have two different short term areas and if you are parked in the 2 hour only (I think that is the time) then stay longer, you will be charged an enormous amount for parking. We were in the longer short term area, but because of our time we were at the airport almost 8 hours and paid around $20.00.
I also sent my son the notecard for flight information, but he didn't think there was any place to put it. If they know their flight, they can put it in their uniform pocket behind their CAC card. Due to some other delays, my son did not have his final orders with flight info until after PIR and later that afternoon, thankfully my husband took a picture of what was printed on my son's folder so we knew the terminal and airline to be able to meet up with them at the airport.
Awesome info Chip. Thank you. I'm going to have to keep checking back at all of this info over the next couple weeks and keep my phone handy so I can make sure I use all of these tips.
That is correct, they will not know until the day. there will be many flying out and they fly out of both airports and depending on where they also go. your Sailor will be briefed after PIR and he shall know more. By the the way Good Morning and have a great day!
I can't thank you all enough for all of this info. You all have been such an awesome group of moms, helping all of us newbies out. I can't thank you all enough.
So it looks like I will be able to get to stay until Sunday and get there sometime Thursday to get tix. Thank goodness my son's gf is a student in Chicago and knows her way around. lol
julieanns - I am glad that you are able to get your itinerary worked out. My son's PIR was before the entire ticket requirement, so it makes traveling to GL, just a little more restrictive on when you can arrive.
