Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi SaltyMom17! My son is also in RCU and I'm expecting a call from him any time today.
I cant figure out how to message someone personally so If you'd like, message me with your son's name and I'll pass it along and maybe they can each have someone new to talk to. Ours asked for books and I am sending them. He said he's very bored.

Hi Lil Bit! We received another letter today and ours said same. Pretty boring overall. Kinda like going 95 miles an hour to a grinding halt! LOL. Hoping to get our call this Sunday. Did you get one this past week? As for sending books, ours hasn't mentioned being able to yet....just said they had a selection.

Hi! Did you ever get an update on whether we can send books? My son fractured his fibia and was set back six days before PIR and he sounded more depressed and discouraged than I've ever heard him.

FYI I had a puzzle book sent to my SR from Amazon and they made him throw it away. So, no books can be sent. I have sent some puzzles in my letters and cards to him. Tore them out of the puzzle book and send a couple a day. My son said he has read his sailor book 10 times now. He has been in RCU since December 2. He also is so bored. Sits on "the toe line" all day he said. He is so eager to get his cast off and in a walking boot so he can start physical therapy.

Thanks for the info BlakesMom. I was afraid of that. I've already started printing cryptograms and word searches, etc. to include in my daily letters. I have no idea if he's getting them--he's gotten maybe one fifth of the mail he's been sent since he entered basic--but I hope so.
Hope your son's injury heals soon and he can get back on track. Thanks again!

I read something about a call every other Sunday. I am hoping for a call today. I'm glad they can send mail more often. That should help communication! I am also glad to hear that they have reading material there. Thanks for sharing.

We don't know if they rotate Sunday calls so they avoid having everyone in RCU calling the same day. While we don't expect one today you might get one. If that happens I'm guessing they stagger call home Sundays to keep it manageable.
If you get a call today I'm going to assume (dangerous, I know) that each Sunday some kids call home and the following Sunday the rest call.
Of course as my son emphasized in his last letter, that call can be rescinded for any reason at all. If you don't hear from your child when you expect to, don't assume the worst.

Thanks! I didn' get a call so hoping for one tomorrow! I didn't get a letter this week, which is highly unusual and I was starting to worry. However, a friend's husand was in FIT before he had to redo Battle Stations and saw my son (they were in a previous division together.) He said he is happy, looks good, and is in good spirits. He also said he is a yeoman, so I'm just going to assume that he was really busy this week. It' hard not getting to talk, but I'm so thankful for this information. Based on what I had read, I thought he was going to be really bored and down. I' glad to know that is not the case❤

I'm quickly finding out that networking with families is the best way to get information. Of course we have to be careful--OPSEC and PERSEC are vital--but we take what we can get!
