Hey all!

My son shipped to boot on the 22nd of January and that night we received the quick arrival message.  As expected, all went quiet until we received his box and letter on the 25th.  Then quiet again until I noticed Tuesday morning I had a voice message from him on the 29th saying he was injured, he will provide a new PIR date, he is OK and will be fine.  That was about it.  Unfortunately we live in a somewhat rural area and while driving home I hit dead areas which happened to be when he called.  We had sent letters to his division address previously and thanks to this site found the RCU address to send letters until he is assigned a new division.  Just hard as a parent not knowing what happened, how he is injured and how long he will be laid up.  My coworker's son had an infection from the injections and was at RCU for 3 days, hoping it is something equally simple!  For now, this will be the page I watch most until I know otherwise!  Glad you are there.

Welcome to the club mangieo.  I was flying to Arizona for a business trip when my son called.  Landed and turned my cellphone on to hear the most devastating voicemail of a child in tears.  It was absolutely heartbreaking to miss the call and then left with a bunch of questions that I couldn't find answers to.  He has now been in RCU for almost 8 weeks.  Do you know how severe of injury he has? They should allow him to call again when he has an update. Mine was able to call after he saw the Dr and the extent of his injury was known.

Sorry you are part of this club, and as Sarah's Human previously said our own purgatory, but I do welcome you with open arms.

Thanks Blakesmom.

It was especially difficult playing the message for my wife but I think she handled it better than I did!!  I am former Navy from the mid 80s and boot was much different in those days.  I haven't slept well since hearing the message.  There were no tears or sadness, just like he was told to read a script in a monotone manner.  I am hoping he has written to let us know exactly what happened, I have absolutely no idea at this point.  So yes, I join the many parents not knowing what is happening and can share in your frustrations.  Thanks for your kind words!

Mangieo if you would like to private message me his name, I would be more than happy to ask my son if he knows him. I am expecting a call tomorrow after his dr appointment to give me an update on whether on not he finally is out of his cast.  I can try and get a little bit of information for you.

Hi--

I was lucky to get a  ten-minute call from my son as he was being moved from his DIV to RCU that wasn't scripted. Later that night I got the one minute 39 second scripted call to not come to graduation, we will not be permitted to see him, etc. They are told to read the script in as monotone a way as they can. I don't know why that is but it is.

My son told me they get to call for 45 minutes every other Sunday. Tomorrow is an off Sunday and barring any disciplinary issues, we expect to hear from our boy on Feb 11th. Keep your fingers crossed! I was glued to the phone for six days before we heard from our son. He was fortunate that the first Sunday he was in RCU just happened to be call-home-Sunday.

Best wishes for your child. It's a terrible place to be, I'm right there with you. Just hang in there. I'm getting by day by day, sometimes minute by minute!

Really helpful information.  Thanks for sharing.

Anything I can do to help ease another family's anxiety.

PS--I've heard since childhood that the entirety of military life can be summed up in two stages: pandemonium and hurry up and wait. I didn't realize I was going to be living that schedule too. ;)

How is Blake? If you have heard anything. We have sent so many letters and not had a reponse yet. If I get a call tomorrow I will ask about him! Prayers for all!

I haven't received a letter this week either.  I wonder if they are training someone new in their mail room.

We are praying they didn't lose calling privileges this week and we get a call later. An unscripted call this time!

Haven’t heard from Blake since last Friday when his cast was removed. They don’t get calls every week, so I’m just hoping they get calls today. Phone close and charged. I did get a letter from him, but it was from last week.

If anyone receives a call, please post! I’m not great at checking online on the weekends but calls are usually between now and 4, so.... I wait.

My boy called home today at appx 2pm EST. Check your PMs Blakesmom.
