Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

A Sailors Needs for A school
My son finally had a meltdown last week about how much stuff he needed to get but either didn't have time for or he simply forgot. He requested that I post some of the things that all NUKE's need in A school. He said that a great idea would be to send them the day before graduation to the indoc address as it never changes.The address is:

class: INDOC
101 NNPTC Circle
Goose Creek, SC 29445
This way all new sailors will have everything they need when they get their.
This is his list:
- -bowls/silverware
- -can opener
- -laundry det./dryer sheets
- -ironing board/iron
- -personal hyg. (body wash, cologne, deoderant, etc)
- -twin sheets (they are provided but my son tells me they "suck")
- -sneakers
- -black socks
- -white/blue t-shirts (to replace the ones from boot camp, again he says it's a quality issue)
- -something to do (books, video games, cards, etc.)
He also said that he has picked up extra's of Navy issued things and highly reccomends getting extra of the following as soon as you get to GC:
- -NSU cover (1 or 2)
- -dress whites cover
- -ribbons
- -pt gear (at least one more set, two would be better)

info for kids at GC who have their own car and will be in state for longer than a year -- esp. if they are registered as South Carolinians.

South Carolina has a new tax credit starting in 2018 to help offset the increase in the gas tax. Save your gas receipts for all your vehicles (identify which vehicle the receipt is for) and your vehicle maintenance receipts (tires, oil changes, maintenance). Each taxpayer is allowed to claim 2 vehicles and the lesser of the increase in gas tax (2 cents/gallon) or vehicle maintenance will be used to calculate the credit. So, start saving your receipts NOW so that when your 2018 tax return is ready to be filed you will have the information needed to claim this credit.

Are they responsible to cook in A school, south carolina? Is there a meal plan? What about school supplies?

pandalvr - no they don't have to cook in A school or power school. Meals are taken in the galley and I believe it comes out of their check. They can cook small things in their room (microwave) - usually snack type items. They don't have a lot of space - it's like a 2 person dorm room and they have inspections so they don't want a lot of clutter.....they will need some school supplies but they will be told what (my son got a good calculator) and they can get pretty much everything needed at the NEX. There's a small NEX there and a larger NEX up the road. They don't need much!

They can HAVE a car right away but won't be able to drive it until they phase up (see the documents about what to expect in A School for more info). They won't NEED a car until Prototype but many do get a car once they earn driving privileges.

Re: Calculator - at least for the ET's my son had to have a very specific calculator that was allowed in the Rickover- They have those available at the NEX as well, but were out when he was needing his and so I ordered one from Amazon - but they can't just have any particular calculator, so don't buy one or send the one they may have used in school.

Pandalvr - I am not sure about "how soon", but I do believe that they are fairly limited to liberty on Saturday and Sunday. If your sailor has already classed up, their required study time starts for the week on Sunday. So, unless there is a 3 day holiday weekend, it can be difficult to spend much time with them and if they haven't completed all of their phases (I explain that in one of my sections in A School Schedule - a sailor's perspective) they will have to be in their dress uniforms, I believe, when out and about town. It is honestly best to check with your sailor and see what he thinks will work best. I think I also mention their weekend liberty time in that discussion as well.
