My sailor was dropped from the Nuke program in March and reclassified as a Yoeman and shipped off to San Diego. This month, they started debiting from his paycheck $1,400 for "DEBT". They will continue to deduct this amount from his check until the remaining balance for God knows what is paid. This is absolutely insane! We have no idea why and he has not be able to get any answers. Has anyone experienced this with their sailor since he left the program? He asked when he was dropped from the program if there was going to be any financial obligations and they told him there wasn't going to be. We are at a loss and he can't get any answers. Any suggestions on how he gets to the bottom of why they are debiting his pay?

I was under the impression that the "bonus" for the nuke program, has to be given back. That is why they dont give it all to them at once
They give it to you as you complete each program. He didn't complete prototype, so they never paid him for it.
Well I'm sorry to hear this. How far along was he in the nuke pipeline when he was dropped? It could be the bonus that they are taking back.
I thought they didn't get the bonus until after they had completed all their training?
B said if he remembers right they got 1/3 after completion of A school and the balance after prototype. (But he's not 100% sure!)
If i remember my son said they get some after boot camp, some after A school, rest after a year later
They get the bonus after each training they pass. It is broken up from what I understand.
My husband said he needs to check with his paymaster. Someone is responsible and that person is suppose to know. (He was Army, so they may call it something different in the Navy). But he mentioned that since it says DEBT - there is a likelihood that he is being sued for a debt incurred and a lien has been put on him or his paycheck. That is his guess but it is still hard to tell.
He did check with his pay master, they had no idea. Go figure. Told him it may take a while to investigate and fix. How about that? Guess he is to live off of a significantly reduced pay check in California no less, until they fix it. Nice!
Did he complete Power School? 1/3 of sign on bonus is distributed after Power School. Balance (2/3) after graduation from Prototype.
If not, then there is some other debt. The paymaster should be able to provide this information.
