How does his recruiter know already? Do they already know their graduation date when they get there? That’s the most confusing part to me. Because my son shipped out on a different day then originally planned we booked an Alaskan cruise for August, thinking he would still here, now I’m guessing he will have his PIR on 8/17, so we will have to cancel & lose all the money, but I don’t know when to do that since everywhere I see that the dates are never certain
Is this where the count 9 Friday's comes into play for PIR?
Yes, any date for PIR given by anyone at this point is a guesstimate. By counting nine Fridays, PIR is most likely 08/17/2018 for those who shipped this week. Those who shipped at the beginning of the week may end up in one of the last divisions from last week's TG and be in a Push Division and have PIR on 08/10/2018. Some of those who shipped at the end of the week (Wednesday on) may have PIR the week after on 08/24/2018 if the recruit is held over for the next week's TG (possible in the summer due to the large number of recruits who ship in the summer as well as storms this time of year) or if a recruit from the end of the week fails the initial run and passes on the second attempt and is moved to a different division than the one s/he was originally to have been in. It is possible for some who arrive on the same date to have PIR a week apart. Wait on The Form Letter, which now arrives 9 to 14 business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC, to know the PIR date for sure. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what will soon be happening and what to expect.
Recruits are tentatively assigned to a division upon arrival, but that may change if the recruit is moved to a 900 division or if the recruit fails the initial run and then passes the second attempt and is assigned to a different division than the one that s/he was originally to have been in or if the RTC needs to move some recruits around for some reason or if the recruit is found unfit to serve during the medical exam and is sent to SEPS or to the REU for evaluation and then is able to join another division or is separated or if the recruit fails both attempts at the initial run and is sent to SEPS. The address that is available to the recruiter within 48 hours after the recruit's arrival at the RTC may not be the correct address following the initial run and could be wrong up until the 11th business day after arrival, which is why loved ones should wait on The Form Letter before sending letters and not get info from the recruiter.
Kerri, the date is certain once you have The Form Letter if your recruit went to the RTC prepared to train and passes everything on time and is not ASMO'd due to any failures, injury, or illness. Once you have The Form Letter, then plan on PIR being on the date on it.
Mine left today as well. I'm still waiting on my "I'm here" call.
DJ'sNukeMom, Welcome to the next step in the journey. Hopefully the call will come soon.
I left info for you on your My Page.
I completely understand and it's only been 31 hours since he has been gone from me and I just want to see him in his room playing his games. And like you I have cried the 15 times I've gone in his room since i got off work!!!
I believe they pay for it when its graduation day. They pull it from their check. Am I correct anyone?
