Hi everyone! I'm very new and this is my first post.

My son just shipped out today. I'm waiting for his allowed phone call, even though I know it'll be brief.

I'm an emotional wreck, though. He's my first born, and now he's flown the nest. I know he's in good hands, and he's smart and capable, but I hadn't anticipated feeling this much...sadness. I'm so proud of him! But...he's gone. Just like that.

Are there any other parents out there feeling a big bundle of emotions? How are you doing? Any moms that already went through this phase want to share your experience?

I'm so glad I found this community! It's helping me feel better already.

I totally understand. I was a wreck as well until last Saturday. The first call was aweful. And that was the call after he was 3 weeks in. Last Saturday morning around 8. He called and sounded like himself. He wasn’t upset. He said he is good know. I write a lot of letters. He said it helped a lot. He has only been in boot camp 5 weeks. Pir is July 20th. He has only called twice. I was so realized and happy. He was fine and that eased my heart. I am one super proud mom.
My first born baby boy left Wednesday....broke my heart into pieces watching him leave... it's so emotional..happy, sad, excited, nervous, worried... I feel the same way...hes just gone...I know once letters start..maybe a call or two I'll feel better...the not knowing is rough on mommas heart. Miss hin so much!!!
My son shipped on June 27 as well. Even though my husband is a veteran, I wasn’t prepared for the heart-wrenching emotion the first few days. Each day I check informed delivery in hopes of seeing the form letter.

I know receiving “the box” will be the next emotional hurdle. We are all in this together. Stay strong!

Welcome to all the new Navy moms!  You got this! You are stronger than you realize! After all you raised future Navy Sailors!!  Ask any questions you want and know you are not alone in all this.  Your Children are safe and learning lots.  Before you know it you will be at PIR getting your first Navy Mom hug!!

My 1st born is in week 2, but he was living on his own for past 2 years. We looked up videos on YouTube for boot camp, and there is one done by Navyformoms, which is how I found this group. It will give you insight in what it looks like there and what they will be doing. There are some other good videos, too. We looked at the ones that are not former recruits, but ones that captured RDCs and more professional. Praying for you!!

My son left on June 28 as well. Can't wait to get that form letter.

Navymom2018, I left info for you on your My Page.

Thank you!!!

Navymom2018, you are very welcome.

My son is flying in to the Great Lakes today. I have been a wreck since we put him on the shuttle yesterday morning. I am so proud of him and what he is going to do, I just miss him so much, more than I ever thought possible. Reading though this thread and the info on this site has really helped. Now its just a waiting game until we get the final phone call sometime this evening.

Welcome Hwilling, So proud of your Son for taking this Oath. It can be a very overwhelming emotional Roller Coaster. I was there Once a Year ago. I was a total mess and no matter what anyone told me I just didnt want to hear it. The Not knowing and No communication is what will really affect you, But Please trust me, to overcome all of this you have came to the right place, You will never be alone, someone will always have answers to your questions, you can post, Vent, Reach out to those that may be feeling the same way. There is never a silly question ever question is valuable. I began to read on everything, and was told to stay busy, I mean I was a total mess you could not mention his name or I would start bawling. Couldnt enter his room for a long while. But I began to stay busy and think Positive thoughts and it really helped. My Son is the Baby so it was really hard for me to let go. But I knew it was something he had plannned for a while since Jr. Year. I will post some sites for you so you will know what to expect, and if you ever need help finding something please reach out. Best wishes to your Loved One and to your Family. and welcome again! Please keep phone close tonight, and hopefully he took cell phone and it stays charged.
