Good evening,

So tomorrow will most likely be one of the hardest days in my life. My son leaves to start his new journey and I have been holding it together while he is still home but I am sure the flood gates will open once he is gone. I am so proud but so nervous for him as well.  I appreciate that this site is available and I will definitely be asking questions and just looking for support.  Thank you to everyone in advance for all the information, advice and empathy as I too begin a new journey.

Hi Stephanie,  Yes, it will be a draining day, but the outcome will be a positive one. Thank you

Mine left yesterday, too....I know EXACTLY how you are feeling.  I've already read tons of wonderful and useful information on this site. I don't come from a military family, so this is a whole new world for me.  At the moment, I'm feeling somewhat relieved that my son is most likely finally getting some sleep right now!

I agree, this site is the best.  It definitely puts my mind at ease and lets me know that I am not alone in this.  I still have emotional moments but it has eased a little.  I am just looking forward to receiving the form letter from him,

Mine left the 30th. So I totally understand as well. I woke up this morning thinking, this is definitely going to hard. However, I just joined this site yesterday and am so thankful for it already! I look forward to this journey. And cannot wait to see how our recruit comes out on the other side.

You will find this site to be extremely helpful. I know mornings have been hard and walking by his room definitely makes me get a little teary eyed.  I found the suggestion about counting the Fridays instead of the days a bit easier.  I too cannot wait to see how much he will have grown as well.  It is nice to know we are not alone.

Erica, welcome. I left info on your My Page to help you get started.

I received "the box" today, my son left on August 30 for bootcamp at the Great Lakes. I was so excited to see his backpack  and of course shed a few tears. I guess it's a normal feeling for every Mom, but our life has to go on, let's keep busy and keep praying for their safety. I am beginning to realize that our son or daughter are ready to face the chapter of their  life on their own terms.....away from home. I get to consult  with our work secretary what is next in their process everyday so I am lucky to be working at the  Albany Veterans Hospital and to take care of the veterans myself.  This is an awesome site to be, we need to support each other in this journney and I am so happy to be a part of the group, thanks for having me.

Hello my daughter left on Aug 29th also.

Hannahsmom, I put info on your My Page to help you get started.
