Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Prototype Info Ballston Span
Hi!! All, i don't often chime in but i do read the discussions. I Thank God, i found this site, i have learn so much from all of you. Thank You!!! My son is an ETN3,close to graduating from Nuclear Power School in Dec. I'm starting to get stress out, he just told me that, his instructor said,"if you requested Ballston Span for Nuclear Power Training(Prototype), you are going". I was already planning on going to the Graduation, and now he wants us to help him move, right after. Thank God , I'm on vacation that week. My head started spining with all sorts of questions. I hope you all can help me, with them. Any information you may think is helpful pls, chime in, any guidance is wellcome. Thank You!!!
Question 1. Would it be best/Economically to drive or fly?
2. How much would he be provided for housing in Ballston Span?
3. Where can i start searching for housing?
4. Are there any special sites/informational boards for them to look into for items other nukes are selling or just don' neeed anymore?
5. Are there any other Nukes, graduation on the 3rd week of Dec,which are also heading to Ballston Span? Would love to connect with you.

When B went to prototype (in Ballston Spa) there were 6 of them that were pretty good buds. They were hoping for 3 - 2 bedroom apartments. They ended up with 2 - 3 bedroom apartments at the Winners Circle in Saratoga - very nice apartments and very military friendly. http://winnerscircleatsaratoga.com/ The important thing is that wherever he lives he wants to make sure there is a military clause in there so when his orders change he can break his lease. Also, summertime is horse racing season and a lot of people who rent out their homes will want them out during the season because they can make more money. Just be careful on the lease. I'm not sure of the BAH rate right now but it's probably around $1400 or so.
I see you are in CA - so am I! We didn't help B move - he and his buddies had it all figured out and left right after power school - they drove and got checked in to their apartment with no issues. If you plan on going I think it would be best for you to fly into Charleston, drive with him to NY and then fly from NY back to CA. Either way your sailor will definitely need his own car in Ballston Spa.
In the Ballston Spa group I believe is a discussion that has some apartment/housing info. The group isn't real active but you will find some helpful info.

Glad to see another happy tenant at Winners Circle...they seemed to know just what to do with the Prototype Sailors. Very friendly and responsive to any small issues, also pretty place and nice to come home to. Good area to run/walk in for exercise, too.

My son and two shipmates had a very nice 3BR apartment at Ellsworth Commons in Malta. It is a short drive to the training center from there. I am not sure about the housing allowance, but with the 3 sailors' funds combined, it was plenty. Ellsworth has a military clause in its contract which is really essential.
not sure where you are driving/flying from or to. Your sailor will need a car for Ballston Spa. Albany is the closest airport to Ballston Spa, but you will need to rent a car to get around.
Craigslist is a good source for household items.

Hi LadyBug3, our daughter is now in Prototype at BS (and don't get too picky about THAT acronym haha). She started early September and will finish before March 2019. Housing: she and several other Nukes are at Winners Circle apartments--they offer leases with "military option" contracts,, which means that the tenants can leave when the Navy tells them to without penalty or forfeit. There are probably several other apartment complexes that do this, too. Winners Circle is really close to the base, which will matter especially much in winter months with the deep snow they can get there. The place is beautiful and reasonable, has washers etc in the units-our daughter had to take a 2-bedroom, but one-bedrooms are available although scarcer. I don't know about items that might be available--we went to garage sales but picked up just the basics, since they're there for such a short time. Beds (mattresses anyway) can be ordered online (Amazon)--it's illegal to resell mattresses in NY State. The foam kind that arrives in a box and then inflates over the next 2 days work great.
