Hello!

I have a few questions I wanted to throw at some of the alumni here.

1. My husband is in boot camp right now and is set for his PIR on 1/4/19.  We have a 5 month old baby girl and I am wondering when the normal paydays are for my SR.  We are dependent upon those resources now since I am not working. We have a joint bank account.  We did receive one paycheck on November 30th but for some reason I was under the impression they got paid on the 1st and 15th.  Can someone clear this up for me?

2.  I would like to take our soon to be 6 month old girl to her Daddy's PIR ceremony but am a little nervous about it.  Everything seems so formal and my baby is pretty verbal so I dont want to draw attention to us.  Has anyone ever taken their kids to this ceremony and any pointers on bringing a  baby to this ceremony? Can I leave once the ceremony starts if I need to?  Will I be able to get to my car to feed her or will I be in a line for hours on end the morning of the graduation?

3.  When does the NAVY start the moving process for the family and belongings of a SR?  Does the NAVY get in contact with me about a moving company or does the SR have to address this?

Thank you all in advance!

Hi I have a question, my wife just got to boot camp and I am also curious about pay as we depend on both incomes. When did your husband leave for boot camp and was the 11/30 check your first check or did you get one before that?

And as far as the pay dates the Navy does get paid on the 1st and 15th of every month but some banks deposit it sooner, like Navy Federal for example, so the 30th paycheck would be his check for 12/01.

Hi!

This was our first paycheck.  He left on 11/8.

Thank you!

Yes pay checks are 1st and 15th sometimes they are a day early. I did not take my 3 year old at the time as it’s difficult to just get up and leave if you need be. Also it’s up to your sailor to set up the move once he or she gets their orders. If they have A school at GL you won’t move until after. Also depends on where there orders are. There my be a waiting list for housing so you may have to stay behind like we did going to Norfolk we stay behind 2 months because I did not want to live in a hotel for two months. They picked us up when our housing was ready San deigo is worse my friends wife waiting 8 months for housing and when they don’t have housing your spouse will live on the ship. Also one friend who got orders were unaccompanied meaning his family could not go it’s rare out of boot camp but does happen

Thanks for your reply! I am hoping to go and live with my husband out at Virgina Beach while he is in school as his schooling is 3-6 months.  He is in the school of music.

Payday is the 1st and 15th, or the business day before if falls on a weekend/holiday.  I got my VA payment yesterday.

Babies are fine at PIR, just sit closer to the exit.  It does take time in the morning to get everyone into the drill hall.

The sailor will contact the PPO about scheduling th movers unless you have a POA.  Where will you be going to?  If it is A school, he has to get there and make arrangements.  Nothing will happen while he's in boot camp, it all will be a few weeks after he gets to school/his first command.  Not every A school qualifies for a move, it must be over 20+weeks of seat time.  Start organizing, but not packing.  If you pack, you void the loss/damage insurance.  Get your vehicle ready if you are taking it, prepare a paperwork fike, sort out your stuff and begin the sell/donate/toss cycle.

Hi I have a question about not packing up yet. We started packing when we found out he was leaving earlier so we have some stuff in boxes already. Should I take everything out closer to when I’ll be moving or? What happens if you void the loss/damage insurance?

Just make sure the boxes are open so the movers can look into them.  They cannot inventory what is in a sealed box because they can't verify what it us, or if it is damaged. If the box gets lost, ot the item damaged, you cannot be reimbursed if it is "packed by owner".   Clothes or books, I wouldn't worry much, collectibles or breakables, yeah, take them out of the boxes.

Got it. None of the boxes have been taped up yet so I’ll leave them like that. They’ll move everything like the furniture too, right?

Yes.  I know there are lists online about how to prepare and what they won't move (alcohol, cleaning supplies, some foods).  They do not ship vehicles.  Here is one  link, but do explore for more information.

Thank you! Will be checking out that link
