Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

ADMIN UPDATE: Members MUST Read ASAP: Updated RULES.
I don’t often start threads and put them on the top of the page like this but it’s important and I need everyone to read it. We’ll be enforcing some new rules starting today per direction of the Navy. No need to get upset or panic… okay? I like to call this the growing pains of getting bigger and needing to become a bit stricter about a few things.
1. So, Navy saw it as a breach of security on N4M’s when members were telling other members how to bend and break the rules (IE get into PIR w/o a parking pass). Thus, any tricks like that can’t be talked about. We don’t want to jeopardize the safety of our recruits. This also includes, “I have more than 4 people that want to attend PIR”. If we see that question- the response should be something like:
“Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL is the homeport for all Navy recruit training. If you have specific questions regarding Boot Camp, Pass-in-Review (graduation) or a recruit, please visit http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/family/index.html. If you cannot find the answer there, please phone RTC Public Affairs on 847-688-2405 or email on rtc.pao@navy.mil.”
2. Sailor last names are not allowed to be posted. We know in this day and age, that often your children have different last names than you. So, it’s up to you on if you want your last name on here or not, but the Navy is telling us- Do not post sailors last name. You can say my son’s name is John. Just not John Smith.
For people that want to now change their user name... you can find out how to do it here.
3. Remove physical addresses of sailors. (Exception to the rule is FPO address).
It’s not necessarily that our sailors don’t want to be contacted by our sweet Navy Members…it’s more that we have to be sensitive to their privacy. Even if you wanted to post your sailor’s address or your sailor’s friends address, please don’t.
4. Please do not post any names/numbers of the RTC Staff.
So, obviously- easy quick changes on your end. Please go through your profiles, posts, photos, groups, events and videos to make sure the above is deleted and/or edited out. Obviously, I’ll be going through and deleting things as well but it’s helpful if you look over your own stuff.

You know, we have the Navy officials to also really Thank. Not only are they looking out for our sailors first and foremost, but they really are looking out for all us moms/family too! Now That's a Great Committment! It truly is the World's Finest Navy! :0}

I really need to know if I've posted something incorrectly. My mother & grandmother always told me about WWII and how important it was to keep everything confidential and not ask a lot of questions. Please let me know if there is anything I need to remove from my site or posts. I do not want to compromise the security of any of our military personell in any way. I am anxiously awaiting your response. mom stew

Mom Stew- My team and I are working together and scanning through everything- it may take some time to get to it all (with all the content on here). Until then, just please reread the guidelines and go through your photos, videos, threads, walls, groups and check it out. You have the power to delete your own stuff no matter where you put it on this site.
If you see stuff that needs to be deleted that isn't yours... then
If you belong to a group- The group admin and I have the power to delete content.
If it's a thread or a blog- the person who started it and I have the right to delete comments.
So, I'm happy to work with groups and what not- but also work with the people who have deleting power. If you are unsure if it's good or bad- send me a PM with the direct link. If you see something and you just want it deleted (and you can't do it) send a PM to me and the group/thread/blog owner.

Another suggestion: don't post their info on their my space pages either. I have seen a couple of times where kids in bc ask mom to post their address on their my space page (mine included). I did not and explained why.

Thank you for reminding us all that as much as we would like to share perhaps too much information about our children, it is important to remember how public the internet is and who might be reading our posts. My son reminds me of it often and I try to be careful about what I reveal online. (If in doubt...I delete it!)

Thank you Catherine. I did all of this in June, when I realized there was way too much info being posted. I went back at that time to everyone I responded to, checked their page and deleted my comments if they had personal info in them. You can go to anyone's page and delete your own comment from their page. If I have personal info I want someone particular to have, I request to be a friend and PM the info. I am always mindful that EVERYONE AND ANYONE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD can read what we write here. Thanks again.
