Hi Boot Camp Moms (& loved ones),
My son arrived at GL on Monday, 8Apr2019. Received the call at 2301 last night. The only thing I could hear him say over the voices yelling in the background was that he was there and to expect a package in the mail in the next 3 weeks. Can’t wait to get that package. 8 weeks and counting.
Anyone else with their recruits arriving this week?

I like the count Fridays advice! My son left this Thursday, May 9. So Friday was his Day #1. My first Friday without him, and 8 more to go until we see him graduate. Hopefully. Assuming no delays. This is hard. Glad there are others who are with us, and been there before. Great words from a man at MEPs, "Thousands of other young men have done this before, it's tough, it's life changing, it's a military rite of passage, and he can do this." Yes, he can.

Hello, I am new to this group and the military thing. My husband arrived at Great Lakes April 10th and received the call at 2056. I know he will do fine; as this is what he wanted, but I miss him terribly. I can’t wait for the next call.

My boyfriend also arrived on April 8th. It's only been four days but it feels like forever. He called 3:30 pm Hawaii time, you could already tell that what he was saying was scripted. Even if I didn't watch all those boot camp videos prior to him leaving, it was obvious. Anyways, just waiting for his box of things. This website is helping me get through the weeks (not the constant "it'll fly by") knowing that there are other people out there going through the same thing. ♡

Hey y’all...my son arrived Tuesday at GL and I received my 10 second call that evening. We got his box yesterday. This week was hard on me since he’s my first born but it really hit my 8 year old daughter last night when we got home. She’s been at my sisters house all week because I have training in Phoenix during the week. We can’t wait to get our letter so we can write to him.

Good Sunday morning, fellow Navy families. I’m so glad to “meet” you all. Sometimes just hearing that there is someone else going through what you are going through helps. This week my son’s box of personal items arrived.  It’s the little things like seeing his printing of our address on the box that make me smile. Just waiting for the letter with his address and graduation date. Writing letters and planning our trip will help these next few weeks pass quickly. I hope you all endured this first week apart from your loved one. It has been rough, but just knowing they are working their way toward the goal they have before them is a great feeling.

Hang in there ladies!  Remember to keep your phones handy and no news is good news!  Count Fridays rather than individual days (the time will go faster this way!).  Come here and vent - no one understands as well as another Navy Mom ;-D

Hi ladies,

Anyone receive the form letter yet?  If so please share to give hope for those of us who are still waiting!!!  :) My son arrived 4/8 and the wait continues - we are 16 days in!  I know no news is good news, but that form letter sure would help my anxiety!

My son left April 9. We received our graduation letter/ form on Saturday April 20th. We wrote a letter and mailed it on Monday April 22nd. I hope to hear from him soon.

Hi SuzyPWarrior - here's the link to the Emptynesters group - come on over and join us:

Emptynesters

SuzyPWarrior - my son was also anxious to leave the nest. He’s also 18yrs old and I didn’t realize I wasn’t ready for it until he left to bc about 3 wks ago but it’s just a normal part of growing up and it’s healthy. It’s just hard on us moms. We gave our son the best of ourselves and it’s their time to explore the world. Try to focus on what an awesome kid you have and remind yourself that this is an experience of a lifetime. He needs this and it’s time. Let’s give them the opportunity to spread their wings and fly, and in the meantime we follow them with our prayers. My emotions have been a roller coaster ride and my thoughts have traveled to that depressing place of what if. But I encourage each mom to remind yourselves that this is an adventure of a lifetime that will do them more good than harm. When we love deeply, as a mom, it’s a painful transition but if it’s something good for them then we’re willing to undergo the painful separation to see them floriish.

Ladies, it’s just part of the process and I do believe it gets better from here. Hold on a bit tight and let’s be patient especially with the admin moms and sarge (meet & greet sign up) because they’re really here to help and they’re doing the best they can. They don’t have to do it but they do. Be blessed everyone!

SuzyPWarrior, there is one that may or may not be very active. Use group search function(its spelled with no space network the words) but as someone who's sailor has been in for over 4 years, I can say for me it took a long time to adjust. On the plus side, my grocery bill went way down, lol

I received my personal letter yesterday.  It was such a relief.  Everything I have seen and read about  bootcamp has made it sound like pure torture.  Thankfully, my son is taking it well, and told me it was easier than he thought it would be.  He said the worst is standing watch.  He is the MA of his division and passed his first PFA easily. I hope you all get the same relief I did when reading the personal letter. Now for an actual phone conversation.  That will be even better!
