Well, I take my daughter to the recruiter tomorrow and they drive her to MEPS. She will stay in a hotel overnight then process through MEPS, get sworn in again and off to boot camp. She is my only child and WOW! What an emotional train wreck I am...how do you get past the empty feeling? Does everyone feel like their heart has been ripped out when their child went to boot camp? Ugh...

It’s hitting me hard this am...my son leaves Wed. For me it’s the no communication, no way of knowing how they are doing. I know he can write, but I also know my son and he isn’t one to write. He tried college and it wasn’t for him, but at least I could text, call, or even go visit if I wanted too. Now that freedom to see my child is gone. Also realizing this is closing the chapter to his childhood..I should be excited for his next chapter (and I am) but it’s breaking my heart.

Yes, the no communication is killing me.

SuzyP....send tons of letters and notes and have her friends and family do the same. It's what's getting Molly through. Any link to home, no matter how boring it seems to us, is appreciated! I send a letter a week and a couple of Sandboxx letters/pics so she has a few things from me each week. Anything you can tell her about the world, your day, what you're up to...

There will be good days and tougher days which is why being a part of the BC group and the PIR group and later their A School and Ship pages is so helpful!

Are there links to A school pages? My sailor is in Pensacola now. The ones I've found on here seem to not be active and old from a few years ago

Jessk-- You may want to try the FB pages.  This site was down for a while and many of the moms made the move to FB and just never moved back.

Well, she is officially at boot camp. I got my phone call. She sounded okay...what an emotional roller coaster.
Just left mine at the airport, trying to keep the tears at bay.

Kinsmi...Congratulations! Welcome to this space. It will help you so much. I can't tell you how amazing these women are and how quickly you form a bond to them. I hate opening my email and having no Navy Mom emails! Come here to vent and cry and laugh and worry, and then give your SR all of your positivity and good energy so they can get through this time! It'll be PIR before you know it!! xo

Kinsmi--Welcome.  Feel free to ask any and all questions on the Main bootcamp moms page.  There are no dumb questions.  We are here to help as much as we can.  Read the info in the Files it will help.  I personally find that KNOWLEDGE is POWER so I wanted to Know what they were going through.  If that is you then watch the first 4 videos of Making a Sailor.  Hold off just yet on the last 2 as they will be tougher to watch.  You have a leg up on many of us in that your Sailor is a bit older going in.  That will be a help for him for sure.  My sailor is almost 6 years in and was just a month out of High school.  We had never been apart for more than a long weekend much less 8 whole weeks!! I look back now and realize that was the easy part.  It sure didn't feel like it at the time!  I was a MESS! but now, I am so happy that he is doing what he set out to do!  You will grow and become stronger in time but for now you are welcome to lean on our strength to get you through!

Mine left last night to BC on the plane and it really hurts. The last two weeks were even worse for me emotionally. I have moments of fear and worry but keeping busy and praying for strength helps!  I hope you can get through this better with every day that passes.  I certainly feel your pain as if a piece of your heart goes with them.  I put my hope in getting that form letter to have "the date".  I think I will start writing/journaling and send them when I get the address too..stay strong Navy Mom

Reading all the posts on here has really helped. I hate not knowing what emotional state she is in and how she is doing. Maybe it's best that I don't know lol. I will be very happy when I have an address and can write
