I noticed most of the discussions were 2018 and older, so I wanted to start a new discussion for those leaving July 2019.  I'm not sure about others, but I feel like I need to cram family gatherings and events prior to my son leaving.  I remember my brother leaving for BC and not really seeing much of him after.  After reading many of the articles, discussions and others' post, it seems like we have a fair amount of task to complete prior to his ship date.  Anyone else feel the same?

Once the recruit has arrived to BC the graduation date for them is set. The only thing that would change that date is if a recruit fails something, breaks rules, or it is found extra help in some area is necessary. So no, the Navy isn't always changing graduation dates. :)

Good to know.  Makes planning our attendance a little easier.

crossings45 - yes the best way to guestimate when PIR will be is to count 9 Fridays.  But it could end up being a week either way.  It just depends on how quickly the training groups fill up.  This is why we recommend you wait until you receive the form letter before booking travel.  Did you get the "I'm here" call?

Yes, but I missed it !!!  I didn't realize I would get the call so I put my phone down.  Frustrating.

Oh I'm sorry you missed the call :(

Keep your phone close by you at all times and answer all calls!  The next call will most likely be around the 3 week mark but you could get one sooner - just depends on their division.  You should get the form letter in about 9-14 business days.  Hang in there!

crossings45 - My nephew flies to Chicago tomorrow. Perhaps, he’ll have the same PIR as your son. Let us know when you get the I’m here call.

Wow, I hadn't check this in a few months, so glad to see all the messages.  We've been busy trying to tie up loose ends, family gatherings, etc.  We recently had Grady's High School Graduation/Shipping off to Navy Boot Camp party and since my nephew is shipping out for Army Boot Camp we included him too.  His ship date changed from July 29 to July 25th, so he could ship out with his friend.  Both will go to the same A school, given they complete boot camp.   Although this site and the boot camp website give you all the information you need or are looking for, I still feel like I'm not prepared.  I'm excited for him to take this journey, I guess it's just because I'm mom.

My grandson left July 15th for boot camp.

I wish him luck!  Are you happy or sad to see him go?

How are you all doing now that your kiddos have left? Mine is 10 days out and I'm starting to feel terribly anxious! Planning his favorite foods for dinner because it's his last week home all but brought me to tears.

Celticwoman2, the worst days for me were the last 2 days our son was home before shipping.  We had just gotten back from a long family vacation and he was cleaning his room and mentally preparing.  He’d look around the house as if he was trying to take it all in, and kept hugging on his dog. Man, those were hard days!  He left 7/9, and we got his box in one week.  Then the form letter came 4 days later.  We hadn’t expected to receive those items that quickly, but praise the lord we did because I feel so much better now!  I don’t feel unsettled anymore,  I know his PIR date.  I know what ship (building/barracks) he’s in and his division. We can write to him whenever we want.  Whew.  My eyes are leaking much less now.  I just keep reminding myself that my son must be strong, so I shall be even stronger!  This N4M site gets us through it.  Hang in there, take a deep breath and just keep things as “normal” as possible for your FS during his last days home.  It’s not goodbye.  It’s see you later.

Thank you so much for sharing! We are on the last 2 nights at home (Monday night is at the hotel before shipping out on Tuesday). Trying to be cognizant of his time with family and friends so that he can see both prior to leaving. We have the equivalent of My Big Fat Greek Wedding family but instead we're Scotts who are all up in each others business lol. We had to ask how many people we were allowed to bring to MEPS for his swear in haha.

I'll keep you all posted - I love reading about everyone's journey through all of this. Thank you!
