Hello Everyone,
I am trying to determine my son's likely division assignment. I realize that nothing is certain until I recieve the form letter. He ships out in three days, 10/15/19. Counting nine Fridays yieldsx a PIR date of 12/13/19. He's a Nuke and has been a performing musician since he was 10 playing several different instruments including trombone in marching band. His recruiter never spoke with him about the 900 division or MU rating, so he won't be going in with one, but his biggest concern with BC is that he wouldn't be around anything music related for 9 weeks. (So I did some research and found this awesome forum. I'm very grateful for the wealth of information here.) From the information I have gathered here, he will most certainly be assigned to a 900 div.
It looks like he will be in TG 03 with a PIR date of 12/13/19. If this is the case, then his division would be 903. But on the page I found listing current 900 divisions, it reads:
Division 903: Ship Staff/Honor Gaurd: PIR: December 13, 2019 TG 03.
However, my son would be Band and Triple Threat is listed for Division 902. That's where my confusion lies. Does this mean that when he volunteers for 900 division, he would only be assigned as Ship Staff and not a musician? Or does the length of his BC change because 903 isnt a Triple Threat division?
His research revealed that all three 900 division types are selected out of each TG. But the list makes it appear that only one 900 division type is selected from each TG.
Can someone shed some light on this for me?
Thank You

Counting the 9 Fridays is usually safe but it could go a week either way. Normally they don't volunteer for a 900 division - they are picked for it. Being in a 900 division doesn't necessarily change the length of time in BC. My son (who was also a nuke) was in a 900 division in 2012. He was "voluntold" and was a body snatcher. Your best bet is just wait and see what happens!
and be sure to join our nuke moms group. Link up above!
Yes, LeAnn sent me there and have joined. Thanks for the info. Any idea why it lists 900 division's PIRs with just one of the 3 types of 900s?
There are only three different 900 divisions by what they do at PIR. Each week the "job" of the 900 division changes to one of the three, Sticks, Triple Threat, Ship Staff/Honor Guard. There is not all three in each 900 division.
If your son is assigned to a 900 division he will be in whatever that weeks 900 division job for PIR is. So if his grad date is 12/13, and he is assigned to a 900 division, he would be in division 903. Yes, division 903 is only Ship Staff/Honor Guard.
Thank you. I was told to contact my son's recruiter one week after ship date to get his address. But I've seen on here that the form letter takes 9-14 days. Given the extra length of your son's BC, filling the division, etc. did it take longer for you to get his address?
Todd, yes, wait on The Form Letter, which now arrives 9 to 14 business days after the recruit's arrival, before sending letters and to know the address and PIR date for sure. See Arrival and What Happens at RTC and Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ....
I left info on your My Page.
