Hi I just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Jackie. My son  just left for boot on December 4 and have no clue of what to expect so any advice would be helpful thank you.  I got a 1 minute phone call that he was safe and that’s it. I have no idea how to write him etc.

Welcome Jackie!  Please be sure to read "Answers to Common Questions" on the front page of this group.  You should find most everything you need there.  You'll get the official form letter in about 9-14 business days and that will have your SR's PIR date in it.  From there you can join the PIR group.  Keep your phone handy and answer all calls because it might be your SR.  Start writing letters now so once you do receive the address you can mail them all out.  Count 9 Fridays to get an idea of when his PIR might be (you could be looking at 1/31) but it could be a week either way.  Again, don't make travel plans until you get the official letter.

And remember, no news is good news!  Hang in there!

Hi Jackie ,
I know how you feel . My daughter has been at BC for just over 2 weeks now . Don’t expect another phone call anytime soon . My understanding is that it’s probably at least 3 weeks until the first phone call . You can’t write to him until you receive the exact address for him so you have to wait for that as well . Hang in there it’ll get better . You will get something in the mail probably within week 3 . I’m still waiting .

Hi Jackie Welcome to Navy Moms. I help out on BCM Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). Please come join us, this site will be the site you will need to learn more about what to expect. We have many New Moms ect. on their and many of the Moms who stay and lend a Helping hand. There is so much to post on here but if you come to this page you will see a lot of info posted and so much to read to get the hang of things. This first few weeks will be full of emotions because the Communication is closed for the first 3-4 weeks. on the 5th Business day of arrival your Son will do his first PFA See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT). This will determine when the form letter will be sent. This will have his PIR date and his address to write to him. The form letter includes your recruit's address, so now you can mail out all the letters you have been writing. There is more on this in Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit. This site will explain about the phone calls. Phone Cards and Phone Calls These other sites will give you and Idea as to how and what things will take place.. if you have any questions please feel free to reach out and stop by to speak to others

Hi Jackie! My son left Nov 25th. My phone call came at 12am on the 26th and lasted17 seconds. If you don't already do it, FB has a page specifically for boot camp. They post a great deal of info, pics and videos there.

Hi which FB page are you referring to.  I can't find one.  thanks:)

Hello and welcome. Mine just celebrated his 4th enlistment anniversary - time flies.

Write letters every day - even before you get the address (it'll be here in a couple of weeks and then you can mail.

Upbeat, positive, encouraging letters - don't talk about how everyone misses him, talk about how proud you all are of him and how you know he's doing great. Tell him about his favourite sports teams. If he's interested in current events - share some - they don't get news really except via letters.  Share what's happening at home and that you're looking forward to seeing him at PIR (if you'll be able to go)

The first proper letter or phone call home is often a difficult one to receive - the first few weeks are hard and they are often homesick and discouraged, But usually the subsequent one, they're doing better and looking forward to becoming a sailor. So don't get upset if they sound down at first - encourage them, remind them that you love them and are proud of them, remind them of why they enlisted...

And hang out here - there's a ton of support and knowledge here.

Welcome to the Family Jackie!  This is the greatest Roller Coaster You will ever be on.
Today Will be Processing Day 1 for your Son.  Tomorrow will be P2 and Saturday and Sunday will be Phold days.  He should be taking his First PFA on the 11th and if all goes to plan he will be writing the Form letter on the 12th.  Please be looking for the form letter by the 20th of Dec (Weather and mail permitting)   IN the mean time you can write LOTS of positive and uplifting letters, Number them and be ready to mail them once you get the form letter.  (No Glitter, newsprint or care packages!!)  Watch the Videos on the Left side of this site and READ all the Awesome information on the Main BootCamp page.    The First 3 weeks are the hardest but you will be ok and we are here for you.  There is no such thing as a Dumb question, even if we have been asked before we will either point you to the answer or answer again.
We haven't lost a Mom to Bootcamp yet, We won't start with you!

Hi Jackie
I am also new to all of this and have actually tried to respond to many discussions with no luck. Saw your comment so giving it another try. My son left on 11/21 and I am still awaiting the form letter with his address:) I appreciate all of the info that I have read over so far. Thank you everyone for all your input and kindness.
Leesa

Hello,

Welcome:-), Yeah that first phone call be quite stressful. Just know that his time is boot camp will be a bit crazy, but you, your family and your recruit can do it. Communication can be no existing and that can be frustrating. There may be times that your recruit will doubt himself, all you can do is keep encouraging him. With my son, we just kept reminding him that the RDC were yelling and such to be yelling and such but trying to get him ready for the fleet. Where things can get stressful and crazy. Just know that you are not alone and that if you need anything..people on this site are here. They have helped me immensely throughout my son time in the Navy.

Jackie, welcome to Navy Moms.  Lots of good info. around this website.  Congrats to your son.  Next week it will be a year since my son's PIR.  Good luck to you all...

Welcome Leesa.  You can also comment on the main Bootcamp page to get even more support.

Welcome Jackie.  My son has been in bootcamp for 2 weeks this past tuesday.  I recieved the form letter and an additional letter from him today.  It was hard but this group is wonderful and it helped me thru it.
