Hi Jackie! My son also left for boot camp on Dec 4th, and I will tell you that the lovely women (and a few men) on this site have helped SO MUCH already!  I am missing my son terribly right now, but maybe yours and mine will be in the same division! You never know! :)

Hang in there, my friend! <3

Hi All,

My son left for boot camp yesterday. This site got me through yesterday and last night.  I’ll admit I cried watching the 6 videos.    Thank you to all of the wonderful parents who’ve shared their experiences.  I am now able to put off panicking about “what’s happening” for at least four weeks.  I’m not going to worry about getting the call somewhere in the middle of basic. I realized that it will either happen or it won’t.  Worrying about it won’t change the likelihood. No news is good news.  :) I’ll see him at PIR ...

Seanster'smom,

Hang in there!!!  Truly, truly I say, No news is good news.  Just today I received my "I'm a Sailor" call.  The cycle continues.  Believe me when I say, it won't be long before you will be here and you will be giving comfort to another new Navy Mom.  As my sailor told me, "Mom, the days are long but the time is short!"

Don't be surprised if the tears flow when you see the first form letter!!

Hi Baker1013,

Congratulations  on that call! Will you be going to PIR?

Thank you for the encouragement.  Honestly, I’m still in the initial tear glowing stage.  The nostalgia sneaks up on me and that is something I didn’t expect.

Good morning, Seanster'smom!

Yes!  We are flying out to PIR on Thursday.  We are very blessed because my Sailor is in Div 903 so we have had a glimpse of him these past two weeks on the live stream PIR.  Have you had the opportunity to watch yet?  I started watching as soon as my son signed papers.  We are a very emotional family.  I wanted to ready myself as much as possible for the pomp and circumstance without having the added pressure of seeing my Sailor for the first time in 9 weeks!!

Congratuations to you and your family, Baker1013! Has it only been five weeks since I was where you are? My son was in DIV 953 and I did the same--watched the PIR often. Funny thing--we were sitting in the bleachers up top at PIR, and at one point one of my sons nudged me as our new sailor was walking by. I could not call out to him or distract him, but when he made his way past me around the corner, I said something out loud about "JDS" this and that (his initials.) He heard my voice and knew exactly where we were sitting. I have cried each and every time I hear the words of the song interspersed with America the Beautiful--the one with the lyrics "We are the wheat fields of the plains..." Later he confessed he teared up during his favorite song (they were flags unit), and it turned out it was the same song. Point is, enjoy every moment this weekend. Through the highs and lows (following his departure for Goose Creek), I cherish the memory of that weekend. Best wishes to you!

Absolutely Great Info Baker1013! Hi Seanster's Mom and welcome to Navy Moms. So glad to have you here, and first off whatever your feeling is completely Normal. Please come stop bye Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) I help out on there and whatever questions or Concerns you may have will be answered. We have a Great Group of Moms who are beginning as you are or have been around like me for a few years. I tell you I can still remember as it was yesterday. My Son has been in for 2yrs. Now and is linked to the USS Theodore Roosevelt, He is a EM3 or 4 cant remember off hand. But he truly enjoys it, it is hard work sleepless nights ....I'm sure that goes for all on a Duty Station. The word is it doesn't get easier but we definitely get stronger. Hang in there and welcome again.

Thank you Phoenix Mom...I appreciate that you still help out those of us just starting the journey.  Can you tell me how long it takes them to get to a ship or training group?  I know the first few days are intake activities...  I’m still learning the vocabulary... my dad is a Vietnam Nam Vet... Marine.  I find myself trying to translate from Navy speak to Marine speak... when do they get their platoon? I think I need to do my homework... lol

Seanster’smom, congratulations to your son.  The PIR will be here before you know it.

Thanks Tammy_Girl!  Where are you in the process?

Seanster’smom-- So if your son left yesterday then Today is Processing Day 1 (P1). Friday will be P4. Saturday and Sunday are P-hold days and Monday will be P5, The day he takes his first PFA.  Assuming that he passes on the first try then next Tuesday he will move to his Ship (His Division in his Training Group) That is the day he will write his "Form Letter".  You MAY get the form letter and address before Christmas... Assuming that all goes as planned and the mail cooperates!  Expect the "I'm Still Alive" phone call around the first of the year.  You can and are encouraged to start writing letters now and number or date them so he will know the order to read them when they all arrive.  Answer ALL Calls!!! They sometimes need to call home for information during P-days!  It is a monitored call but they can't stop you from telling them you love them and are proud of them!!  They may not answer your questions but they will hear them and your love!
The tears are normal!  We have all been there at one time or another!
