I know according to information on this site when the recruits mail out the Form Letter but it seems as if my DIL may be receiving false information from a group she follows. She’s being told from other wives that they received a phone call from their husbands giving them their mailing address. From what I’ve read and depending on their division (if already contracted)  that  form will arrive 9-14 after the recruit’s arrival at RTC. My guess my question for my DIL will be is “when will they know what their address is? It seems odd to me that they would call before arriving to BC with an address? Or maybe not?

ZanesGma, I got my address in the form letter around day 16 after they got to BC. They do not know their ship or their division before that. They have to go through processing first. I know some that call the recruiter to see if they can get the address but that wasn't advised because alot of times they might be put on a hold because they didn't have certain info or papers. Perhaps someone higher up can answer you but I never heard of them knowing their ship and division before hand.

Hey ZanesGma,

How are you? I second what Northwoodsmom said.  :) It was a little different when mine was in. But we were told also not to call our recruiters for that very reason. Things change, they may be pushed back for not passing a test. They don't get that information until after processing first. I haven't heard anything from the others saying that. It will be interesting to find out.  :)

Have a great evening.

ZanesGma - I as well will just reiterate what the Admins on this site have always told us. Don't mail letters till the Form Letter. That said, I believe that someone on here in BC Mom posted during the last few months that they might have had a call from their SR who called about the same time as they had filled out their form letters, but that may have also been at a different point with how they had quarantine going. I do recall one mom mentioning that her SR had moved ships (their birthing areas are all named after ships) several times during the entire BC process recently (It may have been Samantha) but she still mailed her letters to the address on the Form letter.

These wives may be sharing their recent experiences and that is fine. If your DIL receives a call from her SR and he does give her an address then she could send maybe one or two letters there, but I would honestly recommend copying them or keeping them short and just encouraging, because they may not even reach her husband. Before they can even receive letters in their ship, a Recruit Mail Petty Officer in their division has to be trained for picking up and delivering the mail to them. So during the best of times we even hear of delays with the mail getting to the SR which is why many people opt for the Sandboxx App. I did not know about it, I did not use it. It is not OPSEC, so no personal, private msg should be shared. It can be read as easily as a postcard - open and visible to anyone that sees it.

Also, it seems as though the SRs who were in as the entire shut down was going on were given more opportunities to call home, and now it seems like they are trying to make up for lost time and if a division is not coming together and working well, then the RDCs will not schedule phone time for them, if I recall comments by our Veteran moms on here.

It is just hard to tell right now. If your DIL received a call from her husband, and he gives her an address, she should ask him if he has passed his preliminary fitness test and also if he has actually filled out and mailed his form letter home. It very well may be that they are at least letting some of the married SRs call their wives to give them the address since the mail also takes time, because of the phones being taken away during quarantine. All in al, this is good training for the wives and other family members to get use to the fact that their loved one is now an employee of the US Navy and what that means.

Sorry, I don't mean to be harsh, but my daughter's husband is not in the military but works a job that also requires a lot of time away and many risks as well with limited phone calls, so I understand how hard it is, but I also recognize the reality of the situation. Which makes me wonder if some of the RDCs were trying to give options for their recruits to call home before the form letter might have been received. All in all, I am hopeful that both of you will hear from him soon!!

Northwoodsmom - It's what I thought. I also know there are many variations depending on the recruit etc. Thanks for your feedback :)

partyofseven - I'm hanging in there, thank you! If I hear anything differ I will definitely post.  I just know that my DIL also has many questions and she and I are learning as we go. I've tried several times convincing her to join this group? But I also don't mind helping her do some of the ground-work either.

Have a great day!

Good Morning ZanesGma,

I know it's all different now. When you find out something yes please let us know. It can go either way we've had SR's get their letters before the form letter and we've had them not. I always looked at it as a 50/50 chance if I had wanted to mail a letter before hand. It was tempting :) but I waited as I didn't want him to not receive one.

I'm sure the RTD's are trying to keep up with everything.  Just know that he's doing his best and soon you will hear from him.  :)

partyofseven - Thank you!

Chipmunk - Yes, I've come to realize that every SR situation is unique. My SR came out of quarantine over a week ago.

My DIL and I both received a couple of text at the same time (very brief) as he was on his way to RTC last week. They obviously gave them back their phones for a short period of time until arriving at BC. He didn't call her to give her his address as I'm assuming it was because 1. He made the decision to text and NOT call or they could only text? 2. He obviously wouldn't know his address before his arrival a RTC?  Reading many comments over the last few weeks I've been on this site, I know that there is a process that they need to go through before they complete the FORM.

As you said, if my DIL receives a call from him I'll make sure that she asks him if he's completed & mailed the FORM home.  Praying that it will be some time this week ;)

You're not being harsh at all. You've been a great help and I appreciate all the information so that I can pass it along to my DIL.

ZanesGma - The uncertainty of the military is what makes this harder than just about any other job, that we as civilians are use to. There is always uncertainty in the world, but knowing that their priority usurps your priorities are hard. Being there for your DIL, and helping her to navigate and finding her support groups is all part of the learning process.

You are doing a great job!! And enjoy loving on those grandbabies while you have them close at hand!! I was able to see my granddaughter for two weekends in a row after she had grown 5 months and now it will be awhile again.

By the way, my other daughter and I were talking about an app called Marco Polo, and I think my oldest mentioned it as well. You can talk and make a video message that can be forwarded like an email, I think. Then when the other person has time, they can respond and reply. My oldest mentioned it to me to suggest to the Navy wives whose husbands were deployed, so they could take videos of the kids doing something cute or saying hi daddy and then being able to email to the ship email or to their phone.

Just though I would pass that along.

Chipmunk -   Thank you! Yes, I try to see the grandbabies at least once a week.  I'm not sure how I will handle the time when its comes to when they will be able to leave? My daughter is expecting another baby this fall. She is local and that helps :)

Wow! That app sounds great! I'll have to let my DIL know about it.  Thanks for the info.

Hello everyone,

This group is wonderful help and very encouraging!

My sons PIR is set for July as he went to BC May 5th and we still have not received form letter. He called last Saturday and we received letters same day but no form letter. Should we be calling someone about this? I understand every SR is unique but we seem a little behind here. We received an empty sealed envelope with his other letter so I'm wondering if that form letter should have been in there? It was sealed so we assumed he was just trying to get address to us but I'm not so sure now.

Thank you

Hey Proudmama,

It was my understanding that other moms had and have gotten theirs. If I remember what I've read correctly I thought you could call the RTC and ask about it. I am thinking that someone had to do that before and they were able to help her but I could be wrong. But it certainty couldn't hurt. They should be able to help you. Were still not sure if they will be having live PIR's in July. Before COVID we could print out the from fill it out and mail it back to our SR.

I know it doesn't answer you completely thou so I hope this helps. Let us know what you find out. Hugs!!

This is what another mom just said on the bc main page.

They did send a separate letter stating that at this time, they have suspended guest attendance at graduation and canceled liberty for the graduates; however, they require you to still send the form back just in case that changes. It states that you will be able to livestream the graduation. The PIR date will be listed in the letter as well. There are recent pictures posted on their facebook page showing what they are doing. Hope this information helps : )

I would call them just to be sure.  :)
