HI moms, I am new to the NAVY for moms.  I wish I had used this sooner!  Any suggestions on where my sailor can look for housing for prototype?  He will be staying in South Carolina thank goodness, instead of NY.

Thanks!

pandalvr - There are quite a few thrift stores in the Goose Creek area, I believe. The one we stopped at on Red Banks Road even had a brochure listing with other thrift store locations. There is also one on site that is for military only, but their hours don't always coincide easily with the sailors.

They are given housing allowance, and for the most part, they don't really spend much time in their apartment. My son went and bought folding tables so that he could organize things better.

I will say, it would be nice if they could find furnished apartments in GC, I just don't recall. Maybe someone else will reply.

That is one thing that is bad about prototype they have to find a place to live and get all of the things to live for the 6 months. Then what do they do with what they have. Many times the sailors will live in the barracks after that and they won't need all the stuff they just got so it ends up at mom and dads.

I moved to Charleston about a year ago. My sailor was due to transfer back to sea duty and his son lives here. My son had bought a townhouse here so that is what I am living in. I have an extra bedroom that comes with a bed, dresser and night stand. I would be willing to rent out to a sailor. The only thing they would need to bring is personal items. If anyone is interested I can be emailed at kbks_mom@Hotmail.com

List of apartments that are just off of Red Banks Road and N Rhett Ave from Google search.

Marrington Village Apartments - My sailor lived here - I would say they are probably equivalent to a 2 star hotel - his apartment was suppose to have a washer and dryer but did not and they never got one before they moved. 5000 Harbour Lake Dr, Goose Creek, SC 29445 - Their mailing addresses were goofy and you have to get the correct one for the PO!

Pine Lake Apartments -  120 S Cranford Rd, Goose Creek, SC 29445

Audubon Park Apartments - 1700 Eagle Landing Blvd, Hanahan, SC 29410

Spring Hill Apartments - 100 Swift Blvd, Goose Creek, SC 29445

I don't know anything about these other apartments, I am just listing some of the other ones near the apartment, my son was in.

My daughter is getting ready to graduate. She’s already received her orders to be stationed in San Diego. She received more than enough money to pay for an apartment plus the food allowance.. She has saved so much money in the 20 months she’s been in the Navy it’s amazing! She did furnish her apartment but from what we Understand they will ship it for her.
