OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

We dropped our daughter off today at the hotel for MEPS tomorrow and then she ships out. I had a good cry with her but it hurt to see her pack up her room and walking away with nothing more than a book bag at 18.  I hope this gets better. Many questions about quarantine. We saw a press release posted on RTC saying they will quarantine in Wisconsin. Ft. McKoy Army base. Hoping she will be ok. Feeling so overwhelmed with emotions.

KitaJ - you've come to the right place!  You'll find answers to most of your questions from the boot camp moms - don't be afraid to ask!  Be sure you keep your phone handy as you'll get a quick (maybe 30 second) phone call tomorrow night saying she arrived.  Then you wait.....and wait......remember, no news is good news!  Hang in there!

Welcome!! Please read my blog to give you an idea of what the first few weeks may look like.. First Things First-- The Quarantine Edition  Up and to the Left is a link to all the Navy Lingo! It is titled Navy Speak and you can find it here. We are here to get you through the “Great Silence” of the next 3 weeks (ish) and the 8 weeks of BC (ish). You will come to learn that No News Is GOOD News and everything is Needs of the Navy. You life will be Hurry Up and Wait and it’s ok to make plans but they are subject to change until after they have happened so it’s best to embrace the Motto: Semper Gumby!! (Always Flexible!!)
It's not too late to talk on the Phone a TON between now and when she gets on the bus in Chicago!
Overwhelmed is Normal!! Please come Join us on the Main Boot Camp page as well.  You will find tons of support and answers!!  Yes once they land they go straight to Ft. McCoy, WI for 14 days of ROM.  Your Expected timeline will look like this
9/16 -- Travel, Arrival and "I'm Here" scripted phone call
9/17- 9/30 ROM (Restriction of Movement/ Quarantine-- Lots of studying and waiting)
10/1& 10/2- Arrive Onboard RTC and begin P-days (1 & 2) (P-days- Initial Processing Days)
10/3 & 10/4 -- P-hold (Weekend)
10/5- 10/7 -- Complete P days. (Initial PFT & Run will be on 10/7)
10/8-- Begin training and mail form letter out. Look for it to arrive around October 14-17 ish.
All of this is assuming no exposure to COVID with additional ROM
There is a LOT of Silence between now and PIR.  Just know, You are NOT alone!!! We are here and will do what we can to help support you as you adjust to this new life!

KitaJ- Welcome to our group. It is good to have you here. Come on over to the main page and introduce yourself. Welcome again.

Our son shipped 9/1. We heard yesterday (not from our SR) that the "hi, I'm here" call came from RTC. Our understanding is they travel from the airport to RTC to be issued gear and make the call. After this happens they are then transported to Fort Mccoy to perform their ROM.

Sending my love... I know the feeling...
