Dropped my son this morning at the recruiters. Waited with him and asked as many questions as I could think of, and now I can't remember the answers... lol  I know it will get better with time, but right now just still feeling very overwhelmed. I hate that these kids are going to have to be quarantined and not have the "normal' boot camp because of this stupid covid. I am so glad to have found this group!

Navymom1975, Welcome to Navy Moms.  Congrats to your son.  Yea, the Covid thing is horrible, but it will all work out in the end.  It seems like just yesterday we were dropping our son off at the recruiters.  He left in October, 2018.  (((hugs)))

Thanks for the hugs, they are much appreciated *hugs*

Navymom1975 - We understand!!! And we know where you are at!!

Have you read BelovedbyHim's blog -   First Things First-- The Quarantine Edition

it is a good place to start - she shares a lot of information. Also, in the pages in the upper right of the main BC Mom group page there is a lot of information. - Also read Lemonelephant's -   Arrival and What Happens at RTC

On the upper left of the main BC Mom page are links to videos about BC if you haven't watched them already. Take things little by little.

So if you still have the opportunity, text your SR and let him know to call you with his orders so you can track his flight and then also have him call you when he arrives in GL area. This will be your last "personal phone call" The one they make when they arrive at RTC before going to ROM will be a short scripted call that may sound like a recording. I had no clue and just kept saying "I love you!" over and over that I missed what he actually said.!!

Be sure to post down in the comment wall below the discussion. There will be others that chat there who are going through the early stages or in the middle of BC there.

Hi! I have read both the blogs, and tried to watch a video, but it was to much to soon! I have texted and talked to him this evening, he is in a hotel tonight before his final meps and then off to boot camp after that.

That is why I said take it a little bit at a time!!

I am so glad to hear your son had such a wonderful experience!! That helps ease some of the anxiety I am feeling.

I realize that traditional PIR is cancelled for family to come.  But...what about a chance to see them before they go on to their schooling? I want to make sure I can get there if a chance to see my daughters. Involves planes and automobiles..

Rebecca1957 - I had to figure out where I had seen the information posted. Please see the statement here that is on RTC website https://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/tg_grad_dates.html The highlighted header clearly states, DO Not travel to GL to see your new sailor.

Unfortunately, as disappointing as it is, you will not likely be able to see your sailor until they have arrived at their A school and then find out from their command there, what the visitation protocol is currently.

Currently there is no live PIR as you realize, but they are also not transporting the sailors via the commercial airlines as they were in the past. I also think they are holding phones until the sailors are actually in transit to keep travel information from being released - that is my personal opinion - .

My son left for BC on Wednesday from CA. I’m the saddest mom ever! I feel your pain, that’s why I’m in this group.

Gina-Lee - We are glad you have joined us. Did you get a chance to read some of the information shared today?

Navymom1975 - I hope things are going well for you and you are adjusting to the BC roller coaster ride of emotions.

Hi Gina

Gina - My SR is my only son. We are very close. It really HURT A LOT for the first couple weeks. I had to put away all his stuff that had accumulated around the house. Every time I saw it, I cried because it reminded me he was gone. His blanket, Xbox, Sandles, laundry, chargers, Camping gear, etc etc.  but then I made a shrine too. And put his cologne on my pillow. Anyway, time makes it easier. He’s been gone almost 6 weeks. I only cry about once a week now. You’ll get used to it and you will get tougher. Just remember he is following his dreams and the Navy will be sooooo good for him.

Hi Gina-Lee … my son flew out on Wednesday 9/23 from So. CA .  I have all the feels & tears too.  The "no news is good news" mantra I repeat to myself daily and I guess now that he has joined the military it will be an ongoing mantra I have to tell myself.  Prayers for all us Mom's (& Dad's) as we probably have it the hardest...the RC have a lot to do I am and learn so will be busy and occupied as where we parents have a huge Hole in our daily lives.  Hugs!
