C's mom - Sorry I don't have info on reservist schedule either. So glad your son finally got out of GL and is doing well down there. Yes the visits were nice and a little difficult at the same time. It was easier sending him off this time just knowing the communication would be better than going to bootcamp. Hope you are doing well!!
Vintage - hello and hope you enjoyed your visit over Christmas? Has you son gotten his orders for his first duty station yet. Couldn't remember how far a long he is in training?
Our Sailor told us he is to class up January 27, and will graduate March 19. He said he may get put in a later class, though, if the current group classing up has too many students, and some get bumped from when he is supposed to class up. So those dates could change. He has done his life skills classes already.
Oh! And thanks for that information. I'll look it up. Our Sailor went to the recruiter by himself, so the only information is what he told us. And if we didnt know what questions to ask, he didnt tell us. Some questions, he didnt know the answers to.
It's going well! Our Sailor seems to have a good group of friends down there. He's gone bowling, played pool, gone to the NEX with a group of people, grilled bbq chicken on Christmas day with about 7 other sailors. He seems to be having fun. So glad he got down there before Christmas. He has two other guys in his room. One that is partway through A school (He didn't go home for Christmas), and the other that arrived at San Antonio when our Sailor did. Our Christmas/birthday package just arrived down there last evening, so we asked him to FaceTime us when he opens it.
How are you doing? I felt so bad for all of you that got visits and had to say goodbye to your sailors again! How maby weeks is your sailor through classes?
So my sailor said that C school isn't for him since he is a reservist. I'm trying to get information now about what life will be like for him after A school as a reservist. I can't seem to find much information on Navyformoms. There is a group but it's not active.
So my son facetimed with us this afternoon. He said that he heard C school is mandatory now, but he's reserves, so he's not sure if it is for him. He's excited to do it if it is. The only thing is he took the MCOLES certification test August 6. To be fully certified, he has to be sworn in as a police officer within a year. Going in with a normal timeline, this wouldnt have been a problem. But now, it could be cutting it close if he does C school and there are more delays. He's not too worried right now, though, because he said he could apply for an extension.
He is rooming with someone who is already partway through A school. And he said they are really packing them in. There is a cot in their room, and if a third joins them, he gets the cot. Are your sailors three to A room?
C’smom ~ i’m so sorry. I’m still holding out hope for you guys. Glad he’s finally moving on as well. <3
VintageGal: he called us about an hour ago and said he is flying out tomorrow sometime. But it's too late to request leave. I'm disappointed (I didn't realize how much I was hoping he would still make it home), but at least he's moving on and he left there before Christmas and his birthday!
