Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Starting OCS
My son begins OCS in about two weeks. When he went to boot camp I was able to find so many links to information regarding boot camp, phone calls, mail, graduation, etc. I'm really having a tough time finding similar information for OCS. Indoc phase? First Friday packages? Candido boxes? Hi Mom reception? I realize it's my son who is attending OCS, but I would love to be able to get a little insight in to what he will experience, as well as learn about privileges (phone calls home) the Thursday reception, all the things a mom would like to know. Any links, information, personal stories would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Congratulations to your son! My son graduated OCS this past March. I was the same way & wanted to learn as much as possible about OCS. If you want to follow this link for my reply to another mom, I gave some (hopefully) helpful links & an outline of what my son's 13 weeks involved. There's another link in that reply to info on Candio boxes. Since my started OCS during last winter, they were still doing quarantine & not allowing visitors for graduation so I can't comment on the graduation activities. We were so sad to not participate in the traditional reception, etc but we were grateful to at least watch remotely.
Tell your son to keep pushing hard with physical training these last 2 weeks & keep memorizing Appendix B...it will really help!

Congratulations! My son went through OCS in 2020. Graduation was canceled one week before we were to arrive due to Covid. There was no ceremony so we couldn’t even watch remotely and no leave. There is usually a FB page created for their class . If there isn’t one, you can join a page from the previous class and they can answer a lot of questions. Things change but the Candio boxes were in week 12 and no food was allowed. It was a log of fun decorating. You can go online and find some great ideas. My son got his phone back and was able to call on Sundays. They go through a lot fast cruise, battle stations, etc. They can be set back a couple of weeks so be prepared, it will work out. YouTube has some great videos and also FB has a Newport Training Command with pictures. You might spot your child in one of them. Good luck !

We had a similar situation in that our son's Boot Camp graduation was canceled the week before the scheduled ceremony. I sure don't want to miss anything about OCS graduation events. Thank you for your reply!

Congratulations! My son just graduated OCS yesterday. I can say Kim8's information was very helpful to me, so read up on past posts and replies to get some ideas on what to expect. I also joined the Facebook page of the class ahead of my son's because it was very active and our class page was not... that was also a big help to get an idea of what's coming up. One thing I can say is try to write as often as you can... I wrote my son a letter every other day, just offering words of encouragement and telling him funny things that were going on back home. He didn't get to write back often because they're so busy but he did say the letters helped immensely. It's great once they start getting phone privileges (I think after week 4??) because at least you can hear their voice... they only get 10 minutes and it goes by super fast but we couldn't wait for Sundays! Again, Kim8 is 100% correct on your son using these last few weeks to prepare for physical training and study Appendix B. Regarding graduation, two guests were allowed and you had to send pictures of COVID vaccination cards prior to graduation and then present vaccination card and photo ID at the gate... masks were mandatory inside. Unfortunately, there was no Thursday reception / Hi Mom for our class due to COVID restrictions, but that may change by the time your son graduates. Best of luck to your son and his class!!

I think I may have found your son's OCS class FB group. Take a look at this page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1889905181197879 It is titled "Navy OCS class 28 November 2021 Family & Friends". And I believe his class number is 07-22 which means that his class is the 7th graduating class of 2022. And this page is the class prior to your son's (06-22) which can be helpful to join also because you can see what's coming up next for your son: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ocsclass7nov21

Kim 8, Thanks for posting the facebook link to the 07-22 OCS class I was having a hard time finding it. Sewmom my Son is in this class also. I had no information prior to him leaving so finding this was so helpful.

I really appreciate everyone's responses. In my searching I came across this website: http://errantensign.com/navy-ocs/ I have found lots of interesting information. I showed it to my son before he left and he also thought it was an informative site.
