Anyone else have loved ones there? I'm really worried. My son just moved into housing, doesn't even have his goods yet. Goods just got to island Friday, and are just sitting in the container. Hopefully containers don't leak.

Hi Wendy,

My son is a Navy Nurse on Oki.  He's been there a year.  He will be working the day shift in the ER during the typhoon.  He said that military personnel aren't supposed to be driving on base...not sure on that time frame...basically sheltering in place.  Is your son in on-base housing or off- base?  We live on the Gulf Coast, so we're accustomed to severe hurricanes.  I'm hoping that the military will have supplies available for the service people.  Hopefully, too, your son might be able to unload his container before landfall.  Praying for all our military personnel and the islanders.

He just got on base housing last weekend. He will be there 2 years . My son works in the clinic he is a Dr.
He had to go in today and says probably tomorrow too.
Ya I grew up with hurricanes, (Florida girl here)
He still wasn't given a date for his household goods. I'm sure this storm takes presidence

Hi again, Wendy.

Just got a text from our son.  He said that they will be getting some rain bands this afternoon Oki time.

Here's some info that is a bit more reassuring for us parents of troops on Oki:  "

"The storm center is predicted to pass 93 miles south of Kadena Air Base on Okinawa at 7 p.m. local time Wednesday, producing up to 5 to 6 inches of rain and wind gusts up to 69 mph, according to Stars and Stripes.

It appears Hinnamnor may curve slightly southward suppressed by high pressure to the north. This will probably keep its center just south of the island of Okinawa, but either way it’s much too close for comfort. The Japanese islands of Miyakojima, Tarama and Ishigaki appear to be at greater risk, with the closest pass probably sometime Friday or Saturday.

The typhoon is likely to become stationary over the seas south of Okinawa from Friday to Saturday.

Officials are warning of powerful gusts, high waves, mudslides, flooding of low-lying areas and swollen rivers."

Wendy, it sounds like you're all familiar with hurricanes and are old pros at it.

Nice that your son works the clinic.  The ER at the hospital can get busy, and our son has seen quite a few traumas.  He's got one year to go, so well be happy to have him back in the states but assigned to aircraft carrier USS Stennis.  We've been dog sitting a year now.  We look at it as our service to our country...lol.

I'm often up late as sometimes we'll get 0200-0400 text messages.  Glad I like to stay up and watch British murder mysteries.

If you ever want to talk, please feel free to contact me.

Elaine

Ty, I will private message you.

I "think" this is the live weather update for the storm?  It's not very professional like the US Weather channel.  https://youtu.be/nIL8R9D2oCI
