Hi Moms, PIR is over and it was as fabulous as everyone said it would be! Dropped our new Sailor son off at his new home in GL yesterday afternoon and today he reports to Indoc for five days from 7 am - 5 pm. I believe they told him after two weeks he would be moving again. I suspect he was lonely last night...only had one roommate vs. 75 + !!!

Looking forward to going thru this next stage of their lives with you. Our son will be in GL for 30 weeks, he is in AE/CF program.

What is your son or daughter doing now? Where are they at for school?

Oh yea Cheryl - we found another AE/CF mom! Do you know if he will be an FC or ET? I set up a new group for FCs - please join us, there are about 4 moms on there now. It sounds like Travis has the same school as Nick - 30 weeks give or take a day. Nick is in in doc classes this week, not sure what happens next week. He was able to take his cell phone when he moved in on Sunday (we just PIRed on 4/25) so imagine his girlfriend will hear more from him...not sure we will!!! lol

Actually he has called briefly the last two nights just to say - it's been a long day, heading to bed.
Cheryl, if he is starting school today - I have to wonder if he is my son's new roommate. They got a new roommate yesterday who was starting classes today with them. Did he just move?
Hello everyone, My son John he had Pir on 4-18. He did his Indoc the first week and is now on hold for his A school He will be an ET. I think he has one school that will last a few weeks and then he will have to move again, and then start his long school. Really not sure of start dates? My husband was a DS Chief and he worked with the ET's. He spent 20 years in the Navy. John said they were keeping him busy this week Painting and landscaping ( I could never get him to do this ) lol. I wish I could have watched. LOL.
Jackie, I suspect our son will be painting next to him this week! He pir-ed on 4/25 just finished the in doc class and was told he was on hold for the next classes to begin. He is also in the AE/CF program but will be an FC. It is 30 week long program so we look for him to be done with that in mid November.
Mary, I will ask John If he knows Nick. I'm sure he does.
There seems to be so many of them at GL and once they start classes it will be easier to connect their names together. Nick has two roommates, one just moved in this week but PIR-ed on 4/18 and the other roommate was in his division but I'm not clear if they are both in the AE program or not.

I believe Nick told me there would be moving two or three times while in GL for school.
Mary, John also said that he would be moving in a few weeks. So I am trying to figure out when to send his lap top. I know that they have to pay $40 to have it hooked up and I think the same every month. But if they are moving around that much I wonder if they have to pay the hook up fee every time. Thats something he will have to find out. Also do any of you know if they have dvd players? John wants me to send all of his movies to him.It seems like he will have a lot of stuff to move around.Oh well they are young. LOL
Hi Jackie, some of the building have lounges with tvs so maybe they have dvd players in them as well. Once he gets his laptop he can watch his dvds on his computer.

Nick was able to take his cell and laptop with him after graduation however because he is expecting to move a couple of times, he has not registered for internet service yet and apparently it is thru the cable company.

Right now his laptop is useless to him but we are looking at getting a wireless card for his laptop, they run $60 a month but then it will be good whereever he goes and then he will have email and internet capabilities.

I use a Sprint wireless card in my work computer and it works great regardless of where I'm at. Nick is leaning that way since he has no other expenses a month now. Cingular/AT +T also offers the service and it runs about the same cost but our company did a lot of research before investing in them and found that sprint has the better coverage when it comes to wireless cards.
Thank you , Mary I will look into the cards. My husband works for AT&T so I'm sure we will have to go with them. You know support your company save your job. LOL
I am a AT+T fan for all of our cell phones and home lines but we have employees all of the US and when they analyzed the two companies they felt like Sprint could cover us better. The price seems to be the same at both companies. You might be able to get a nice employee discount on the card Jackie.
We just got Colton his wireless card from Verizon and it is indeed 59.99 a month. Wherever the cell phone works the wireless card works :)
I am thinking that is the best way to go too Molly, it costs a little more a month but no matter how many times they move - it stays with the laptop plus it gives them the opportunity to take the laptop with them and be able to get on line anywheres.
