While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I think this is addtional training, not their A school (?) What is Pre-Bud? How long does that last? Who has to go thru Pre-Bud?

Great Info Angie, reading the article - pre-bud is for our Navy Seals? Is that how you see it as well? Awesome group of guys those Seals are but our son is a techie so no Seals for him.

Pre buds is special training a sailor gets before going to Buds which is part of the Navy Seal Program. Heres another sight that explains pre buds and buds a little bet better. http://www.navyseals.com/special-invitation-hell
Am I understanding your son didn't sight up for seals or have any interest before leaving? If he didn't ,I don't think but not sure you have to worry about pre-buds because this is a program to prepare and get them ready sailors to enter the SEAL program.
All this military lingo gets and is soooo confusing. At least to me

I hear that Angie, no Nick is AE (advance electronics) so I don't think there would be a reason for him to be target for pre-buds...maybe that's why I don't know anything about it. Personally I think our Navy Seal program is totally awesome but certainly not right for everyone. Nick is where he should be!

Welcome to the Navy...welcome to the dark!! Really we will find out everything when we are supposed to - never fast enough for us mom! His division Angie is going to be a mix of ALL jobs, some are enlisted, some are reserves, I don't know if it is based on what time their plane landed or all the brown eye recruits are in division _____! I'm sure there is a fine science to it but not one that is shared with us. Have faith, it will all be good and if Ryan qualified and they are need more Seals - he will probably get his wish!

My son was the the delayed entry program. He signed a contract for Seals in September. He was given a 6-month gym membership at the Ymca and was assigned to a current or retired Seal who mentored him, encouraged him and tested him. He had to pass pretty strenuous tests before boot camp to be eligible for BUDs. The pre-buds program, I think, just started in February to help prepare those heading for Buds. I think too many guys were not making it through Buds. I also heard they are trying to increase the number of Seals from 1900 to 2500. I have read all this. I have only gotten one letter from my son and he didn't mention it, just that he might be there longer than planned. About boot camp, he said "I'm loving it. It's hard, but fun".

Sounds like the Navy did a real smart introduction for your son, when my husband was in the Navy we knew a few Seals and they were very impressive guys and certainly not an easy program to get into. The pre programs make a lot of sense. I suspect if your son is telling you he's loving it but will be there longer, they may still be putting him thru the pre-bud program inspite of his early prep work. Good luck to him.

My son is in Boot now and hopes to go to BUDS. My understanding is that now they go to "Indoc" or Indoctrination Training as kind of a Pre-BUDS. It is supposed to be very physical and used, I guess, to "weed out" more recruits before BUDS. I was told it can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 16 weeks, depending upon when the recruit cycles in. I am trying to be very supportive of what my son wants to do but I am totally stressed by this whole Navy thing. Sending my older son off to college was SO much easier!

Agreed Diane! Our daughter is at college four hours away but we hear from her so many times a day between phone calls, texting and emails that I forget that she is not here! Once they move on to A school, many of the schools allow them to have their laptops and cell phones so the communications get much better.
I am in awe of the Seals program, how proud you should be of your son's efforts and goals.
