Introduce yourself, we are getting so big! I can't keep up. As short or long as you'd like. I want to learn everyone's names and find out about your sailors - where they are going, what SHIP they are on, on base or on the seas, and what you hope to get out of this.

Welcome Connie, our son was on the Cole for most of his schooling as an FC and it was a good building. It's nice that his familiy is with him.
My name is Debbie. My son, Eric, is an ET2 stationed out of San Diego on the USS Antietam. They are currently out on deployment. He has been in the Navy for 3 years. I am so proud of him. He was just recently promoted to ET2. I had the opportunity to go to San Diego this past September and spend a week with him. I had such a wonderful time. He deployed out in January. There is a lot of things about his work that I don't understand so any information would be helpful to me. Hope to hear from anyone soon. Have a great Mother's Day.
I'm Jean. My 23 year old son, Sean, just arrived in GL on May 12. I have to laugh, I'm reading CCR's paragraph not knowing what in the heck indoc, scc and ATT modules are along with A school and C school. I have my work cut out for me trying to learn all the lingo. I'm not one of these mom's crying because my son is there and I miss him..I do miss him but I think this is a direction that will benefit my son greatly. He was actually supposed to leave for boot camp last November but I was in a life threatening motorcycle accident last October so he delayed his entry till he knew I would be OK without him. Sean is my middle child. His siblings and his niece and nephew are anxiously awaiting the time that they can send their first letter as well as their first care package to him. I am also taking care of his dog, Misfit...but we call her Missy, while he is away. She misses him terribly. Sean's younger brother was wearing a pair of Sean's jeans the other day. Missy knew those jeans were Seans. She kept smelling the jeans knowing those were Sean's. She now follows me everywhere as if she were saying, where is he? when is he coming home? I look forward to my first letter and my second phone call. I do have to admit. The first phone call was at 11:30 at night and I missed it :( ; however, I will save the message he left for a long long time. I look forward to talking to some of you, getting to know you and share in this experience.
Hi, I'm Jill and my son is Brandon who will turn 20 the first week of June. We live the Tucson Arizona area. Brandon's PIR was 4/17 this year and he is on the Franklin. He just told us that he would probably be moving very soon. He is on his second week of SCC. He signed for 6 years, but he is already talking about staying in until he can retire. He says he wants to at least make chief. He is an ET and still has a way to go before he starts C school. He is our only child, and we are very proud of him and he is very proud to be in the Navy. My dad was a Marine and he just beams when he get to talk to Brandon on the phone. We love him and miss him, but we know that this was an excellent discission for him.
Hi
I'm Carol and my son is Ian. He is in SCC right now, moving over to the Enterprise in the next day or so, and should finish SCC by end of this week. Thank you for all of your helpful guidance.
Carol
Welcome Seanbikersmom, Jill and CMG. We are delighted that you are joining us and it sounds like your sons are at the early stages of their career. This group is made from ET and FC families at various stages - from boot camp to the fleet so please feel free to ask any questions that you may have along the way and you will always find your answers and/or support here.
Hello to all of our new members - please take a moment to tell us about yourselves and your sailors.
Hi, my name is Kelli. My son's name is Raymond. He is in bootcamp right now and is going for FC. I was wondering where his "A" school would be, and it looks like from your discussion that's it's in Great Lakes. That makes me happy; he'll be close to home (sort of). We don't have his PIR date yet. I've received two letters from him so far and he seems happy. I don't know if I can explain it, but he seems like he knows he's made the right decision. I did not know there was a "C" for FCs. How long does that take? And can you tell me wht SCC is? I put it into the "Navy Speak" but nothing came up.
HI Kelly!
If you have heard from your son you should know his division number. Go to this page on the Recruit Training Command web site to find out his graduation date.
http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp

SCC is "Basic Seamanship". ALL sailors take this course even ones that have gone in as "undesignated". It is usually only about 2 weeks long. Then he will go to ATT "Basic Electronics". I do not remember how long that one is but it is self-paced so he could finish earlier if he works hard. THEN he starts A school. My sons have been ET so I do not know how long the FC A school is.
Hey Kelly, look slike Melinda covered you on most of your questions. A school for FCs can last six to nine months, as much of the program is still self paced so some will finish sooner than others.

FCs definitely go to C school. Location and length of C school will depend on what system your son is assigned to and he won't know that until A school is ready to wrap up.

But just to be thinking ahead, C schools for FCs are located in San Diego, Damn Neck, VA and Dahlgren, VA. I don't think I'm overlooking any other locations. Our son started C school in Dahlgren in January and he will be graduating in mid August. He is in the Aegis program and will be heading to Hawaii after graduation.

CCR's son is in school for CIWS and he is in San Diego, he also started in January and will graduate next week. So it really just depends on which system they are assigned to when they graduate from A school. Some schools are longer than others but you should probably expect about 1.5 years or more of school before they report to the fleet. Let us know if you have other questions along the way.
I'm really late but welcome Seanbikersmom, Jill and CMG. And Kelli B. WRite me anytime with a message and add as a friend and we can talk. Sorry to hear about your accident SBikers mom.
Welcome JJsMom - we are happy that you caught up with us. Would love to hear what your son thinks of deployment.

Heather --- good to see you. I "think" the holds are going to be moving faster as we finish one fiscal year and start another one but it's only me thinking out loud! LOL Just keep enjoying!
