Molly had the GREAT idea to send some N4M love to some of our military that are "hurting".
I am going to say that July 12 is the "birthday" of this endeavor. July 13 it got named!!
"M.A.S. Special Hugs" - M.A.S. - for Molly's Adopt a Sailor!!!

From Molly: Hey Moms ---- we are having some wounded guys coming our way. Would you like to make a thread and those who would like to send a card or messages to our wounded ones.

If you know of someone in the military "hurting" and needing a "special hug" - PM me (Brenda Sue) the address and I'll post it in our "special place." I do ask that you keep us updated on the condition or change of address of anyone that has a lingering need.

OK - Mom's let's get this ball on the roll!!

I am going to keep these names in one place - so people don't have to read through hundreds of pages to find them. Go to MAS We Ship Love (Click Here) for the addresses. This is a private group - just ask to be a member and after you have been "checked out" - the powers that be accept you!

Please use the labels designed in the "Shipping Labels" discussion so they will be easily recognized!!

You can either print these on stickers or just tape them to the envelopes. If neither is possible, just write Molly's Adopt a Sailor on the envelope - so they know where they are coming from.

I just thought I'd alert you to a place where you can print off cute Disney cards. If you're a member of the Disney movie rewards they have printable cards, activity sheets and iron ons. Also at http://familyfun.go.com/printables/craft-templates/specialfeature/b... you can find some cards you can print along with a ton of other stuff.
Great Barbara ---- I was just thinking that we would start a new thread soon with the shipping lables, buisness cards and now Im thinking we should add the free card links also (like the one you just posted) Tinas card you could print etc etc !!
Update on Michael - I have not had time to read it yet - I will after church tonight - but Click Here
I finished writing notes to all our injured service men and to the families of those who have passed away. I am so sorry that the notes are needed! Many thanks, Brenda, for setting up this information for us.

I read this morning in Ross's CaringBridge site that there are many at the VA where Ross is who are getting no mail, no letters of support. This I find very sad!
I sent a $5 Starbuck's card to Ross - if everyone could do this - maybe he would share!!!
Wouldn't that be neat - all the veteran's sitting around enjoying a "cup of joe" from their Navy Mom's!!!
GREAT!! I am not going to mail my batch until I don't get cards in the mail for a day or two - so EVERYONE - get those cards in NOW!!! So they can get a big FIRST batch!!

I WILL forward any others as they come - but it may take longer because I will wait until I have enough to make a "package".
I know that Ross would share!!! If you want to send cards my way I would be happy to have the nurses share them also!!! Because of the HIPPA laws it is tough to get permission to visit one on one with the patients. At Christmas time I was part of a group that took gifts and stockings and blankets into the VA. Before we could go onto each floor a nurse had to ask permission of each patient. They closed rooms of patients not interested in participating and then we could enter the open rooms and share a few words and gifts. So sad to think of those guys and gals with no visitors... We have been unable to find a way past all the privacy matters so far... still working on it! But cards and letters are always great! You can leave those and ask they go to the patients on their dinner trays.
Susan, I understand the HIPPA laws but having the nurses act as distributers would be good If we are going to do it, I would like for cards to go to everyone in the unit, unless an individual turned it down. We could do it the same way as with the units we adopt: ATTN: Any Serviceman. I would suggest not saying any Sailor since it is a VA hospital, all services may be represented. It would be good if we could get pillowcases for all of them. What we need to know is how many there are. I would suggest only the rehab unit, at least to start.
How many of these rehab units are open across the United States?
I was wondering about this as I fixed lunch. I looked at the VA site. It appears that there are four major polytrauma centers across the country and 17 network sites. Ross is at one of the network sites. These are probably the places with which we would want to direct our efforts. They deal with the service people who have been injured abroad. While others, such as Ross, are important, I would probably favor an effort towards those injured abroad. As of April, there were over 350 service personnel in these hospitals.
Do you remember where the four major polytrauma (what is that) centers are?
Richmond, VA
Tampa, FL
Minneapolis, MN
Palo Alto, CA

Polytrauma is defined as two or more injuries to physical regions or organ systems, one of which may be life threatening, resulting in physical, cognitive, psychological, or psychosocial impairments and functional disability.

That 350 above was April 2007 not 2009!
