Molly had the GREAT idea to send some N4M love to some of our military that are "hurting".
I am going to say that July 12 is the "birthday" of this endeavor. July 13 it got named!!
"M.A.S. Special Hugs" - M.A.S. - for Molly's Adopt a Sailor!!!

From Molly: Hey Moms ---- we are having some wounded guys coming our way. Would you like to make a thread and those who would like to send a card or messages to our wounded ones.

If you know of someone in the military "hurting" and needing a "special hug" - PM me (Brenda Sue) the address and I'll post it in our "special place." I do ask that you keep us updated on the condition or change of address of anyone that has a lingering need.

OK - Mom's let's get this ball on the roll!!

I am going to keep these names in one place - so people don't have to read through hundreds of pages to find them. Go to MAS We Ship Love (Click Here) for the addresses. This is a private group - just ask to be a member and after you have been "checked out" - the powers that be accept you!

Please use the labels designed in the "Shipping Labels" discussion so they will be easily recognized!!

You can either print these on stickers or just tape them to the envelopes. If neither is possible, just write Molly's Adopt a Sailor on the envelope - so they know where they are coming from.

Just read the obit about the recruiter... WA/OR navy moms he was stationed at Whidbey Island, WA with VAQ 137... That is my sons squadron! I forwarded the obit to my son and asked him to let his command know... Hopefully they will also send a card. We are sending a special card to his children...
No way Susan ------- wow he was a really nice guy too !!
His mom at the funeral just killed me ----uggggggg everyone started to cry when she spoke.
WOW - HOW could a mom speak at her own son's funeral?? I don't think I could!
WOW... I cannot imagine having the composure to speak...
Update on Airman Colton:

from Irene (his step-mom in Texas' Moms)
Good Morning Ladies! Colton is improving a little bit each day. Yesterday, he had some Ensure, soup and fruit juice and tolerated it. He is more awake, but still loopy. He told his sister yesterday that he wouldn't be there when you come tomorrow, as he was going to fly away to be with God, she and their Dad, just told him, "Nope, He had his chance to take you and passed it up, you are stuck with us for a while." It makes me cry just to write it. Praises! Thank you all so much for the prayers! Keep it up, we still have a long road ahead of us!
So good to have an update on Colton...
Yes Colton will need our love for awhile ---- dont forget to ask his mom if next month she would like him to continue on the Special Hugs thread :) Im pretty sure Ross will continue with us for awhile.
Do we have an update on Ross lately, Susan? He was so "up" when we visited him but I just have the feeling that he's going to have some really "down" times as he goes through this huge adjustment to his young life.
you can get updates on Ross through Caring Bridges. I put the link up in the discussion. You sign up for he updates - and his parents are great about keeping everyone informed.

He got out for a "field trip" yesterday - learning to work his wheel chair on public transportation!!
Barbara, I do believe Ross has some "down" times because his dad alluded to them. Overall, however, I think he is a very positive person. His family is a tremendous support group and his focus appears to be more on what he can do rather than what he can't do. Reality will really set in when he leaves the VA and his dad returns home. I do recommend joining his Caringbridge site. He is really an inspiration.
Brenda,
Thanks for the update.
Indeed Ross is a glass half full person! He does have down times, just keeps them private. He is so amazed by the support from so many that he has never met. He wishes every guy and gal in the hospital had this kind of support. He does share our cards with the other guys in the spinal cord injury unit... so our cards are working overtime! Right now they are saying that Ross will remain there through Sept into October. The plan is for him to return to South Dakota at that time... then school somewhere... he has lots of things to decide yet...

Last week I took him a Dairy Queen blizzard. Had been one of the few things he requested... He enjoyed every bite of it! I am amazed at how great the rehab unit is. They work on every aspect of life for the patient. How to dress, care for themself, get around, fitness, you name it... Independence is the name of the game. Ross has really thrown himself in for the challenge!
