My son left on Wed. 8/5 and we finally got a phone call yesterday (8/10) at about 8am. It came from a pay phone, I forgot to ask if he used his phone card to make it, I was just glad to hear from him! Now I am eager to get his address...he said where he was at was not the permanent BC address. I watched 2 Navy shows on the Military channel last night...too much information for a mom is a dangerous thing, I think I was more at ease NOT knowing.

It is normal, sometimes they get in so late, the calls don't get made. The first day or two are just crazy-busy. You'd know if he hadn't made it, no news is good news in this case. Not good for your peace of mind though!
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. Yes, my brain tells me, "No news is good news," but at 3 am, I don't engage it much...
They are so much safer at boot camp, in the care of the Navy, than they would be running around town with their friends at all hours of the night. For 8 weeks I knew exactly where my son was and that he was safe and well-fed. If things were not OK, you would have heard by now.
Just got a peep today!!!
Thanks for your encouraging words. He sounds like it has been a whirlwind of activity. He commented on how great it was to meet folks from all over the country. He said their location will change, as they are not in their permanent location yet, at least I think that's what he was trying to explain to me, it was a short conversation, but he sounded "real" and not like he was reading off a card!
I hope my son gets to call me, it would be great to here his voice. Maybe out son's are in the same division.
I asked him what division, he said "340," but since he didn't have a permanent address (now he's in "Pearl Harbor") I guess I'm not sure if this is his real division. Are you from TX? He said he met a lot of folks from all over, someone from TX seems to be a bud.
My son left on 8/4 but arrived in Chicago on 8/5 at around 8:30. He took his cell phone and called me when he got to Chicago, he said there were about 9 of them together. He was walking to catch a bus to the base. I didn't get the call "I'm here" either. I guess he figured that when he called me that was it! this weekend was hard on me. He is my youngest son and my husband works 7 and 7 and he was gone. This weekend was tough but I tried to stay busy visiting friends, cooking with my sister-in-law, playing with my grandson! I am OK, but it sure would be nice to hear his voice and him saying"MOM, I am really glad I did this"
My son did not say, "Mom,...I am really glad I did this," but then again he doesn't really get excited like that. Everyone at church wanted to know how he was doing & I had no report this week...now I do. Soon I'll have an address. Life is good.
We are from SW Louisiana. Maybe I will get a call soon! I sure hope so. I know, when I was in church yesterday I got lots of questions, but I just said I am sure he is OK and I will let everyone know when he calls and an address. I already have lots of letters to send to him!
You are doing good. I have "written" letters in my head, now I need to get them on paper.
Hey! We got our call last night around 7:15PM. He sounded good but said today was going to be a tough day. He is in ship 9 div. 339. He asked if I had gotten his address, but I hadn't. He said he sent it in the box, hopefully I get the box today. It was a short call but I was glad to hear his voice. He sounded upbeat and said it was going good!
GREAT! My son is also in ship 9, but div 340. I got his box today. Good thing my hubby had stopped in to visit the recruiter today, as we got the address, then...the box had no address in it. Glad your son sounded good, upbeat is wonderful.
