The purpose of this forum is designed to inform those parents of sailors who aspire to the rate of GM. It is intended to aide parents with what to expect once their sailor graduates boot camp (BC)..also known as PIR, and moves to the A-School side of the base. Questions will be answered by the family of sailors who are training to be GMs. If we don't have the answers, we will get them for you.

Please introduce yourself if your sailor is in the GM rate and provide background on your sailor so that we can get to know you. If you have specific questions about these ratings, and you ask them here, Will and Hoppi will be able to answer your questions. This will help all of us because the answers won't disappear pages down in the general forum.

I want to give Gary T. credit for this great idea; he just hired me as his secretary to put it together. So, jump in and we hope this will be helpful to all of you.

Did you go to his PIR, Rose? Please keep us up-to-date on Ted's progress through school.
i did go to pir.. ted was a flag barrer..honor group..941..it was the best..he has grown up so much..now waiting for his a school to start..not sure how long he will be in holding ship for that...
Hi Rose...so glad you got to Ted's PIR and congrats to him being a flag bearer....I have a video of Michael's PIR as I was unable to attend. Yes, a hold time is in store for Ted, but hopefully the hold times are getting shorter and shorter. It's kinda a wait and see situation. So, hang in there with him and for him with your love and support. Have a great weekend! Vee
Yahooo! David called this morning soooo excited. He finally "classed up" and started A school today. He is now talking about Cschool to further advance himself. It has been a long haul so makes the news even sweeter. His PIR was 4/17 so new parents just keep encouraging your sailor. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and yes, they will eventually get to A school. Thanks again for all the words of wisdom and encouragement from those who passed through this before.
Congratulations to David, now the fun can begin. School is great. He should really enjoy it. Gary T.
Congrats to David classing up for A school. He is on his way now and the wait was worth it. He will do just great in school. Glad we could help you through that tough hold time.
Hi Gary, I have one of those "borderline" stupid questions which are not supposed to be stupid. I think you will have an answer. Do our sailors get assigned C school, or do they ask for it? I hope I asked that clearly.
Michael should be getting his orders in the next couple of weeks....Enjoy Nick this long weekend! Vee
Hi Vee, C school comes with the territory. If their grades qualify them for it their are assigned. They do have a choice tho. Basically they have 3" gun, 5" gun or VLS. They have a few other classifications but these are the ones I know of from speaking with Brett. Not everyone gets C school. So.. how have you been. I've been watching and reading, keeping up. TTYL Bill
Ah, Bill, there you are with the answer for us. I was pretty sure that was the way C school workred and with Brett a little ahead of our sailors, you were the one who had the answer. B/Z to you, Bill. I have been really good and busy; how about you? I'm anxious to see where Michael will go next. I think he might be anxious to depart GL, but am not sure now that he has a GF just across the border in Wisconsin....Have you treated yourself to any key lime pie lately??? TTYL and have a great weekend. Vee
Thanks for asking that question Vee. I was wondering the same thing since David is now talking about wanting to go on. Questions helps all of us to learn.
Mary, did you see Bill's post about C school?? You are so right, questions get answers and that is how we all learn. Have a great weekend....Vee
