Yes, the day is finally on us that we are now seeing orders for C school!
I understand for the FCs, C school can be located in:

1) Dam Neck, VA
2) Dalgren, VA
3) San Diego

I believe the location is determined by which system they will be operating on.

Do we know where C school is for our ETs?

Has your sailor been to C school yet? If so can you tell us which one? How long it lasted and did they get leave before starting C school or head directly there from A school?

Well, I guess I can jump in on this one. And remember, the following info is for FC c-schools; from what I understand of ET c-school there are many, many different places they can go, and so it really varies for ET's.

My son was in Dam Neck, Va for Sea Sparrow C-school; it was 8 months long and is one of the longer c-schools. Sea Sparrow c-school is only in Dam Neck.

Yes, which system they get determines the location; however, the only place for AEGIS C-schools is Dahlgren, VA, and all other non-AEGIS c-schools are either Dam Neck VA or San Diego, CA. (unless the Navy changes things and adds a c-school in GL) And then I think the Tomahawk c-school is only in San Diego.

Yet, some c-schools are in both Dam Neck & San Diego. I know that CWIS is on both coasts. If a Sailor is hoping for a permanent duty station after a c-school that is held on both coasts, the Sailor should try to pick the coast that they want to be stationed at. For example, from what I understand of CWIS school, those who get the San Diego c-school usually go on to get west coast orders; those who get Dam Neck for c-school usually go on to get east coast orders. However, of course, this does not apply if the c-school is only held at a single location.

As for leave between A & C school, every set of orders I've read (and I've read a handful) has a statement that states, "PROVIDED NO EXCESS LEAVE INVOLVED, MEMBER IS AUTHORIZED TO DELAY 15 DAYS IN REPORTING TO COUNT AS LEAVE". This means if they can take as many days as they have accumulated, up to 15 days for leave. And then they usually get the same statement in their orders after c-school; but it could depend on the needs of the duty station they get assigned to. They can also increase their number of days leave (or get credit for leave), up to 5 days, if they do Recruiter Assistance Duty (RAP) where they work with their hometown recruiter for 5 consecutive days while on leave.

However, my son's situation was a bit unique, and he went directly to his C-school, and had about 3 weeks before his school was to start, and took leave after he had arrived at the c-school base.
Nancy, appreciate your knowledge with the C school program and locations. We are only in the A school stage right now but like to think ahead. Some of our families are closer to this than we are so it's great information for all. Thanks.
Thanks for the information Nancy. This was a good thread to start Mary. It is something to pass on to our sons/daughters.
yes, I was able to print Nancy comments and include them in that care box today.
where is Dam neck & Dahlgren in VA? We have family in Virginia Beach(cousin works @ Norfolk). Not sure where Jimmy will go yet.
Steven's ET C school was a few years ago and was in San Diego - there were other schools in VA and San Antonio, TX. His was only for 4 weeks but one of his buddies from A school had a 3 month ET C school. It all depends on what their orders are for their 1st ship/shore duty. The orders determine which equipment they'll be working on and thus which school they'll need. Steven's been to several different schools throughout the past years from 1 to 2 weeks. One time he couldn't even tell me the name of the course he was taking much less the equipment he was learning. :)

Steven didn't get leave between A school and C school but I believe he could have. He did get leave after C school. But this isn't always the case - sometimes their orders to their first station is to report immediately after C school. They should receive their orders for C school and first duty station towards the end of A school. Have them check carefully to see the time frame between A and C school and then between C school and 1st duty station.

But since it's been several years since Steven was in Core/A/C school some things may have changed.
Have we told you Carolyn, how pleased we are to have you here?!!! Even though it's been a few years for Steven. He is much more advanced then most of our sailors are so it's good to have the voice of experience here. Thank you!
You're welcome Mary. I'm glad to be of help and if I don't know I'll ask my sailor. I remember how little I knew about the Navy when Steven left for boot camp.

Hi Carolyn, My son's PIR was 8/08/08. He is in GL for A-school presently for 8 months. From what I understood, my son is to be deployed after A-school with an 14 day leave during which he plans to do RAP duty. I am going to ask my son if he has been told about C-school. Would my son do C-school at the port where he would ship off from?
Wow, thanks Carolyn. BTW, welcome, I havn't met you yet. And Nancy, as usual, you are a plethora of info. The word for today is....
Thanks for the welcome.
