We are driving up too 12 hours...we are leaving late wed driving as far as we can then again on thursday. try to break it up so it isn't so long on one day!! Maybe your son will get stationed in St. Mary's Ga after school. I have family down there and there is a sub base down there.

Mom4sons...it is cool our son's in the same div and going to school together for H/C...Sorry you wont make the greet n meet but I understand!!
We will be driving approx 9 hours-we will be leaving thursday. I not sure of the time yet. We are staying at the Residence Inn in Waukegan. I hope it is a nice place. He said there was a shuttle but it was 3.00 per person..and we would have to talk to the driver to get back to the hotel. Not sure what we are doing yet. Would like to go to the meet and greet. I have a friend staying at the Ramada.
I will be at the meet and greet..haven't gotten resv. as of yet...tearing my hair out for hubby to get on the ball he is a last minute kind of guy. I wanted to set resv. the day I got the date of his PIR...buuuuttt Nooooo, he wants to wait..UUHHGGggg
We're flying and will be there Thursday for the meet and greet, look forward to seeing those of you who make it. For those who don't, I wonder if there's any way for us to connect Friday morning while we're waiting, at least to say hello! I've heard great things about the Residence Inn, you should really like that. We'll be at Homewood Suites that's a bit further away (but easier on my budget), I've heard it's good, we just have to allow a few more minutes for driving.
Mom4sons- thank you for sharing...hoping for a letter tomorrow. I know what you mean about not much of a talker. Usually I get one syllabal reply from my son. I am like you I can out talk a magpie..lol..If I know my son he is getting pretty mad at the ones that won't shut up. and the arguing I wouldn't be suprised if my son isn't the one getting pissed at the ones not behaving. I hope our son's get to know each other in A school, since they are both going to be hosital corspman!!!...I was reading on the other forum that our boys are going to the gas chamber tomorrow..will say a prayer for our boys!!!!!...well wish me luck that I get a letter tomorrow!!!
I'm jazzed another Navy family will be at the Homewood Suites...let's just hope our recruits (I don't want to jinx anything by calling them sailors yet) have the "approved" swim attire they'll need for the pool. Maybe we can make this our unofficial hangout for 363 and convince others to join us there! Can you believe it, just 13 days!!!
What is the cost of homewood?? I haven't made my resv. yet....do they have an indoor pool cause OCT in chicago is not ideal swimming weather..lol
I reserved a one bedroom suite with a kitchen for $75/night. I'm thinking they might (?) have a AAA discount, but don't remember for sure. There is an indoor pool -something my kids have loved when we've had winter vacations in the past. I wasn't sure about the hotel and "friended" a mom whose son graduated a few weeks ago. She told me that she had a great time, the place was really good. It is about a 20 minute drive to base, but I figure the only time that will really be an issue is Friday morning. Good luck choosing what's best for you, but I do hope it works out and you choose to join us!
Good point about the liberty rules.

Just in case it helps, here's the note I received about the hotel "The hotel was great! It was so nice to be able to get a few things and put it in the fridge. There is a hot plate with 2 units, a microwave, a toaster, a coffee pot that makes about 3 cups of coffee, an Iron, and 2 hair dryers. It was very clean and comfortable. I suggest bringing a GPS or renting one. There is a ton of construction on all the highways and roads. The morning of the graduation we left at about 6:15. We made it there with plenty of time, however there were only 9 divisions graduating, so if your PIR is larger it may take more time. When you get to the base they ramdomly inspect cars. Of course, ours was inspected, this took about 15 min. We used the highway the morning of his graduation, but took alternate routes around them during the day. They were very congested. Oh, the breakfast is pretty good too! Not great, but not bad."
wow thanks I am going to look at their web site. I don't think we need a suite since it is just three of us going to graduation. thanks for all the info!!!
My son is in that div too, He is awful about writing informative letters, so I read what everone else post what their boys say.
Hi timsmom, I know what you mean I learn more on this website than I do for my own son!!! Are you going to the meet N greet on thursday?????
