In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Kris,My son Aaron PIR is Oct 16.He still has not told me his rate.Seems like he would know a week before PIR.So nice to hear from another Mom with a newbie starting A school.I told Aaron I will start sending his requests to him as soon as he tells me his address when he arrives at GC.Was your son grad and go or did he have Liberty PIR weekend?Aaron will be able to celebrate with us over the weekend.

Hello to you too. I'm not sure about rate but MM means machinist mate and ET mean electrical technician (or something similiar) It was what type of "job" they'll have. I do know the machinist mate has a shorter "A" school than an ET. I didnt find out what Steven was doing until our visit at PIR. PIR is amazing, I had goose bumps and tears watching all the Sailors march in. You feel so proud for all of them. We stayed at LaQuinta in Gurnee, it was about a 10-15 minute drive to the base but it was very nice and very reasonable.

My son-in-law's PIR is also October 16. He's at Great Lakes, & he seems to think that he will only have a couple of hours afterward before he's sent on.
Maybe not relevant to this discussion, BUT,... I want to know what to wear to graduation! Don't want to be over-dressed, but don't want to look too casual. And I've had several people ask me if PIR is held inside or outside. I had assumed it was inside, but now I'm wondering.
Battle stations were today for him-keeping our fingers crossed! -

hi, graduation was inside like a big hanger, when you get in the building there are signs posted with each DIV # and people were sitting in their childs div area.
hints-the sailors werent lined up exact with the signs -my son was div 335 so we sat in that area but would have seen him better if we were in 334. If you are able to have someone video tape when they come marching in it is so impressive - they do announce the divs as they come in.
as far as attire some people were really dressed up and others not so much - everyone looked nice (no sloppy clothes, holes in jeans, etc)
all the sailors loved battlestations! hopefully everything went well for your son. -

Hi Kris,
My son Blake's PIR date from BC was 9/11, he arrived at GC on 9/16 and started A-school on Monday, he is a "MM" I don't know much else. We are going down for a visit this weekend so I may have more information then. I'd be glad to join a group for us newbie mom's, LOL, Blake gives me very little info, so this is a great way to learn more without be pushy! Glad to meet you!!! -

Hello, I can let you know I didnt received much for information while Steven was at BC (luckily our N4M group was great). I would appreciate any knowledge you glean while visiting. I wonder if they start classes every week or every couple of weeks. I'm glad you getting to go visit, I am in Wisconsin so wont be able to make many trips. I plan to go visit during the holidays and if there is a graduation for first phase school I will try to make that. Thanks for joining!

We are planning to vacation in Charleston at Folly Beach next June or July in hopes of seeing Aaron if he has some time on the weekend or in the evening when we visit.I have never been to Charleston but hear its beautiful with plenty of attractions to visit.I have heard A school starts up a little more frequently than Power school.Kris,did you send Steven's cell phone to him after his arrival?Have you heard anything about leave time during the holidays yet?We leave Thurs for PIR and staying at the Navy Lodge.Hope to go to the meet and greet at the Ramada Inn.Friday we plan to go to Flannagans after PIR and visit the NEX.

hi, Ste was not grad n go, he had liberty friday after PIR, saturday and Sunday (he did have to be back at the base each evening by 7pm but he wanted to get back by 6pm because they have to get back to their "ships", change clothing and they might have duties to do. On Saturday he ended up not being able to leave until 11am (rdc was assigning people jobs, etc). We went to church sunday morning on base that was nice. the base and NEX will be busiest on friday (clothing gets picked over) but on saturday and sunday theres no problem parking on base. thee are two NEX one on the base and one where the commisary is - that is the one i recommend - more clothing choices and more sizes they also had more options of everything there.

My son had PIR on 9/25 and it took him until last Friday to get to GC. He has been there a week now. He is to be an ET and says he thinks his classes will start on Monday the 19th. He doesn't have a class number yet that I know of.
This week he has been settling in and doing cleaning etc. Next week he says he has to sit through some briefs - whatever that means. It will be nice to get everything settled and just down to the business of school! -

Hi, my son has PIR on Oct 30th and flys out for A-school on 11/4. Not sure what his rating is, he told me he was going to find out this past Monday, but I haven't heard yet. I'm hoping he tells me in this weeks letter. Can someone tell me what GC stands for?

Bev - GC stands for Goose Creek. That is the name of the base/town where the nukes attend school. It is just north of Charleston., SC.
My son found out about half-way through boot camp that he was going to be an ET - I found out a week or 2 later....snail mail from boot camp is frustrating! -
