There seems to be so many of you lately!!! It is wonderful that you will have each other's support while going thru the process together.

Thought I would start this thread so you can at least connect and share stories together. Seems like there is a fair amount of you in Great Lakes and just as many more trying to decide if you can more to Great Lakes.

Thank you Ana.
Don't count on the separation pay. Not everyone gets that. We were supposed to get that and never did. In addition to that we had another problem. After a couple of months, all of a sudden or BAH dropped from $1500.00 (California BAH) to $1100.00 (Illinios BAH) and we were still in California trying to make a mortgage payment. I think someone somewhere messed up on our paperwork. We were not prepared for that and it put us in a hardship.
I'm not trying to scare everyone. Just want to let you know not to count on anything. And be prepared. Things are okay now that I live in IL.
If those things happen there are people to talk to not sure exactly at the moment but if he should be getting certain pay on his paycheck you shouldn't just let it go.

If you are separated by orders or deployment etc (not voluntary) for over 30 days you should receive separation pay of $250. It's not something that only some people get. http://www.navytimes.com/benefits/pay/military_otherallowances_fami...

Mary- Your husband needs to talk to someone about his paycheck!
I got a packet in the mail about 3 weeks after he left for BC. It had the form in it to get my ID. Everything was filled out already. I just took it to the nearest base and got my ID. I went last Monday and got it, and he left on the 13th. Also, the paperwork for Dental Insurance was in there also. I filled it out, and sent in the check. The Navy base here will not let you get your ID w/out the paperwork or you husband being with you, so you might want to call the nearest base and find out what their rules are for that.
Only 4 people could attend his graduation
yes only 4 poeple
Yes, definitely bring the kids!
Ok, I just found out his PIR is NOT in March, it is February 26th. How "set in stone" is this date? He was able to call me this am and he passed along the info. :) I am confused though... it would only be 7 weeks of BC... does that sound right?

Some divisions are formed faster than others, and some are pushed through faster.

Memorize his SSN! In the military, that's how you will be identified very often.
When my husband was in bootcamp he was set back 1 week from his original PIR date. To make a long story short, he got in trouble for something that was against the rules. Some times the recruit gets sick and that will set them back or they don't make it through battle stations the first time. Nothing is ever "set in stone" when you are in the military. And that is a general rule you should learn now early on.
Alrighty then... refundable plane ticket it is! :) I talked to the recruiter today and actually feel much better. He said the date will not change unless something happens on his end. So, I am praying all goes well for him, so I can see him sooner rather than later. No phone call is a good one in some cases I hear. :) Thanks!
Courtney, you have to have a specific form to get your military ID, and since your husband is in BC, I suppose you'll have to wait. Once you're in GL though, there is an office where you can get an ID. Before I moved to GL, my husband faxed over the form to an Air Force Base by me, and that's how I got my ID. And you should still be able to get military discounts for flights and cars even without your ID if you're doing it on the phone. In person, they might ask to see it, but typically here in GL there are a lot of people who understand how many military families are coming, and might understand regardless. I also think I remember hearing that children under the age of 2 don't count as a "ticket," but I could be wrong on the age. Good luck!
