Hi Everyone!  I am new to this whole NROTC program.  My son is a senior in high school and completed his application for the NROTC scholarship
at the end of October.  He has taken the ACT 3 times and has improved
his scores each time.  He is above the needed score for all levels.  He
has been in contact with his Navy recruiter
and has been told by the officer that interviewed him that "he is one
of the best all-around packages he has seen in 10 years."  With that
being said, we still haven't heard anything about the scholarship.  His
status is still "No decision has been made".  Should I be worried or is
this still early to start thinking he isn't going to get the
scholarship?  If he doesn't get it, he plans to do the College option
and still go through the program.  His first choice is Miami University
(Ohio).  He has applied to 5 schools and received notice from 3 stating
that he has been accepted.  We are waiting on the other 2 but should
know by early February.  This waiting game is excruciating!  I want him
to be realistic that he has been up at several boards already and still
hasn't heard anything.  BUT, I do not want to discourage him because he
has worked so hard for this!  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have spent many days looking over this awesome site!  Thanks in
advance for any input

Our recruiter said once he submits the package it is anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks before its presented to the boards in Fla . There were 2 boards in Nov but unlikely he was at either, 1 in Dec which is a possibility and so far 1 in January. It appears from what I have read at other sites if you check his scholarship page once it is ready to be reviewed by the board it will say "The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application." This showed up on our sons last week .So dont give up yet there are 5/6 more boards to go. We too are waiting and so get how difficult it is. Good luck!
Thanks for the input and encouragement. I have left the status page checking up to my son until just recently so I am not sure if it has ever said that about the application being received. Hopefully, we will hear something soon!
From what i remember that was the 3rd "Change" on status we have had.
Amen to all the prior comments about taking some breaths! Thankfully, computers can give us prompt info, so just make it a daily thing to check the status and then go about your regular business. One day, you will see those wonderful acceptance words and you'll sit there stunned for a moment before you jump out of your chair!! You've got good company here, so reach out any time. And good luck to your son! :-)))
Hang in Mom! Every package is different. My son is a 2/CMIDN at Villanova. He submitted his app in late Aug 06 and heard late NOV 06. His SAT was very high, which attributed to him being selected early, also a Tier 1 major. My daughter just received a Nurse ROTC scholarship to Auburn, 2nd choice, awarded on 1/14. Board was 1/12. Her scholarship was posted @ 8pm at night, because I remember checking @ 630pm, when I got home from work- nothing. She submitted her package in early August. Her SAT was not nearly like her brother's but she steadily improved on her ACT. There is another board on 1/26, I believe and four more after that. Since he just submitted in Oct, he is still very much in the hunt. I do remember @ 3 weeks ago, where selection status says"No decision has been made" disappeared from my daughter's status. It just read "Selection Status" with nothing written after it. That kind of clued me in that she may be looked at on 1/12, which turned out to be true. That is terrific that he already has been accepted to three of his schools. Good luck! It will all work out!
Thank you all for the encouragement. I am sure it will all work out like it is supposed to. It is great knowing that there is a place like this where I can get reassurance and support! Thanks!
My daughter is a freshman at Purdue and on ROTC scholarship. I think she found out last year pretty close to this time that she had received it. I would think that he should be hearing soon. Waiting can be so hard.

My daughter's third choice was Miami (we are from Cincinnati) and was accepted into their Engineering program. Her first choice was Purdue and she was accepted into Chemistry. She wanted to be a little further from home than Miami.

Good luck. Waiting feels like a lifetime sometims.
My son submitted his in August and heard in November, so it took about three months. They told us they started picking in Oct, I think the 1st or 2ND Tues of the month they met and chose applicants. I am not sure how much that is true. Have you called the NROTC unit at the school to see if they have any info, or if their spots are full? At least you might find something out. My son just became medically qualified and completed his CFA. He has received the NROTC scholarship for Jacksonville University but is waiting on the academy. They waiting game kills ya. I just start checking things off the list. What other schools did your son apply to? My son's first choice was Texas but they said he could never get in, so he changed to Jacksonville.
It sounds like your son is fine. My son applied in July before his senior year and found out he had been awarded the scholarship in December. So your time line is fine. My son then had to wait to be accepted to his University (Virginia Tech). That's what took so long----he did not find out about his acceptance until March. Try not to worry...things do take a long time. My son is now a Junior at Virginia Tech in the NROTC and has loved every minute of it (except for maybe the first semester his freshman year---VT has the Corps so it was like an initiation time). Anyway, he has thrived in the program and has made so many close friends in it, which we know will be forever friendships. I will keep my fingers crossed, and I'm sure you all will get good news soon!
Don't worry! It's not unusual for you not to hear until the April board - there are boards meeting every month - and I frequently tell folks about the "bubble" who come to my info session here at Virginia Tech- we're in the bubble right now. A lot of seniors don't get their applcations in in October - instead they wait until Thanksgiving or Christmas break to get it in, and it causes a huge bubble to hit the system. Then, of course, there's the holidays - which slows e.v..e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g down to a c.r.a.w.l! So, I guarantee the scholarship board is working really hard right now to get caught back up, and it can feel like things are moving very slowly right now. But, your son should focus on getting the absolute best grades he can this semester, and double check his status online to make sure they have the latest ACT scores. The waiting really stinks, but if it comes through it will be worth it! & Even if it doesn't, he can compete for a 3 1/2, 3, or 2 year scholarship once he gets to his unit. no reason for him to get discouraged yet. Good luck!
Thanks for the encouragement! He called the recruiter he was working with because his latest ACT scores are not showing on his online account. The recruiter told him that Pensacola has his latest scores. Is there another way to be sure they do? He improved 3 points in the Math and 5 points in the English from his first set of scores!
Thanks for the input! It really does help to hear from everyone who has been through this or better yet, works with the program. My son called the recruiter he has been working with and asked him why his newest ACT scores aren't shown online. He told him that Pensacola has the latest scores. He improved 3 points in Math and 5 in English! Is there another way to check if they really do have the latest scores? It could make a difference. Thanks!
