OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I just got back from Grad, and If he gets to go into Grad and Go as of Friday than the chances are great for him to get overnight liberty. However! It all is up to his ship... For instance i know many of people that didnt get overnigth because they had to wait until sat for going over to a school. Also some got to go through sunday night because it was a holiday, it all depends on the Chief of the ship. I hope he gets overnight for you.

Diana, First of all I don't want to discourage the new couple to be, but The Navy frowns on getting married right after boot camp. The recruits, I believe, are specifically told not to. (the navy has seen too many marriages not work out) I do know that once he gets to A-school there is paperwork that he can fill out and they need to meet with the Chaplain and Command Master Chief, before they can get married. Once they are married then he can fill out the live ashore packet and work on moving her out to GL. There are also some restrictions for freshly married sailors. (not able to get on base housing)
I hope I haven't scared you or anything I just wanted to respond and give you some information so the couple is prepared and dreams aren't crushed when things don't happen as planned.
Also Smoke (also on N4M) has just gone through this process and might have more insight on the process and timeline. -

Thanks Mary, wanted to say that. Yes it might cause a little paperwork for the Navy, but then his wife will be able to get paperwork for insurance and id while he is in boot camp.

My husband and I got married a week and a half before he left for boot camp (we planned it like that for atleast 6 months prior - he was in the delayed entry program- ) anyway it worked out great. The recruiter might say that but they aren't going to not let him go to boot camp if he gets married prior. Also a good thing about getting married before boot camp is all the paperwork will be done and he will get reg pay, seperation pay, and basic housing allowance then she could move with him about 3-4 weeks after boot camp. But if they want to wait until after.....many people got married during x-mas leave and they did not send a chit in or have to see the Chaplin or any of that.... they didn't get punished or anything either. EmilyFCwife knows all about that and she could let you know how it went for her. IF they are ready though.....I'd say it's much easier if they get married before he leaves.

I also had a friend who's recruiter told him he would be kicked out of the program if he got married before bootcamp. That however is not the case, the recruiters just don't want to do the paperwork. That is what they told me [now] husband before he left to bootcamp. So we waited until PIR weekend, but he was told no again. Which was also not the case, it was just frowned upon. The Navy just wants you to make sure that you are making the right decision, which is why they ask you to talk to the Chaplain and Master Chief. As far as becoming a live ashore after he's married, my husband just recently heard that you are not allowed to become a live ashore in GL anymore unless you are already. The announcement was made recently, and it apparently is a command rule. But anyone else feel free to let me know if you've heard otherwise. Good luck with the marriage plans!

Tell him if they are serious about getting married and ask him if they would still be getting married even if he wasn't leaving then if the answer to both is yes tell him to do it now way before he leaves!!! He honestly needs that time to have a marriage with his wife before he leaves. My husband and I had been planning on getting married before he ever even thought to join so we did right after he signed up. He was in DEP for almost 8 months though. If his recruiter is telling him to not get married that is because his recruiter doesn't want to deal with more paperwork!!!!
My husband's recruiter was/is an awesome guy (hubby still talks to him now) he told us if we were serious to do it and before my husband left. That way I am covered from the day he leaves. Your son and his wife will receive BAH (which pays for cost of living) while he is gone, she will have insurance and will be able to move up here with him once he gets settled. If they wait then she is not even thought about as a girlfriend/fiance by the navy and it will take longer to get her here. He will have to go through more paperwork and classes and it could take a few months.
I am more than thankful that my husband and I had time to build on our marriage before he left and I honestly believe that it benefited us in the long run. Good luck to your son!!! -

My daughter is in ACEF school at Great Lakes, trying to move hubby and daughter there, missed base housing by 1 day wonders if anyone know of any good apartments or condos that are in good neighborhood and safe and not far from base-she is having problems getting to library to research this as she has been busy with school and other activities, Her daughter is 1 yr old and she is the main transportation for both hubby and daughter-please respond with any info-all is appreciated-Many thanks- Bobbyfox

Forrest Pointe Apartments, and Eagle Ridge Reserve apts are good. Both safe with many military families. Go to apartments.com and search for apartments in the Great Lakes area, zip code 60088, you can see photos of places and get numbers etc. Best of luck to your daughter and her family.

I just wanted to say we found a GREAT place in Waukegan! I love it, we are moving in on Feb.13th. If anyone is looking I would say check it out. Northgate apartments.
