I received the "kid in a box" and all I got was dirty clothes!  No note, no information, just sweaty socks, jeans and converse.  Should I not have received his PIR date and a note from him?

T is on ship 13, Div 149. I bet he will graduate the following week but don't know yet! I am so glad you know now! What a relief to have the date!
My son is on ship 03, Div. 145. I am not sure yet when his graduation date is but he left on February 8th.
Linda, my son got to Great Lakes on February 9th and he's on ship 03 Div 145. I received my letter today and graduation is 09 April 2010.
Come join the dicussion for SHIP 03, DIV 145!  My son is in this division aslo and I am trying to get all of us together to chat!  :)
No. That will come in a form letter they are REQUIRED to complete and send to you. It will have his mailing address, projected graduation date and some other information. At the bottom of the fill in the blank letter is a few lines where they may write a few sentences. They don't have much time to do this and post it so everything will be brief. I don't think they can put anything in the box home except their belongings. I got back a jacket, jeans, socks, shoes, some toiletries, a cell phone and charger and his hat and gloves. Also a pair of underwear. Good luck - you'll hear more soon.
yes, mam' I can relate. My son left 4-20-10 and I cried my eyes out. I was really upset I didn't get a letter when they sent his clothes home. This has been the longest week of my life. I couldn't be prouder of him.
Mine came seperatly. I had to chuckle, because my son also sent only dirty clothes, but left 2 of his 3 phone cards in his jeans pocket! Luckily I happen to spot them and mailed them back to him! Oops!
Teri P, reading your story about the phone cards in the jeans pocket from "the box" made me realize that if we moms/wives kept a list of all of these things relating to our Navy recruit/sailor, we could compile them into a pretty funny book! I know each of us probably has a funny story(ies) about our sailor/recruit. We all need the laughter reading these comments especially in times of utter frustration when we can't reach them! Mine still is on phone cards at A School since his cell is "in the mail" now...but he hasn't called home much. SO I'm still in the dark! I am leaning on the motto: NO news is GOOD news! :-)
Trippers mom, I received "the box" yesterday as well. I did not get any information either. just clothes, backpack, phone, glasses, etc. It is really a strange feeling getting that box. From what I have read on this site, however, we were not suppose to get a note. We have to wait some more!
I got the letter and box the same day, but luckily the ladies here prepared me for the formality of it all, so I handled it all better than had I not realized it was so straight and to the point.
Take heart even though the separation is hard on us the results are worth it. My son loved bootcamp. He missed his Dad, sister, and I like crazy but he really enjoyed his time there. They truly do take good care of our kids and some of the kids (like my son) actually really, truly like their RDC's (gasp!! LOL)
My son just graduated from BC last Friday so I can honestly tell you that while you will go through some rough times now (In terms of missing them and waiting and wondering) it WILL get better. And you may be as fortunate as I have been and meet really great friends on here that you can share your sorrows and eventually TRIUMPHS with. :)
Hello all, I am new here. Our son, Kyle is 17 years old and still in high school. He graduates in June. We are not sure what avenue he will be on to enter the Navy. He has enlisted, but also may get an ROTC Scholarship or receive an appointment to the Naval Academy. If he goes enlisted, he will be going to Nuc school as he has passed that testing already. If he gets ROTC he will attend Auburn University in Al. and the Academy is just that. He really wants to fly jets, so we will see what avenue will be his. He is in the DEP and will begin weekly meeting as of next week, they were monthly until now. He has great choices and we are very proud of him. I think it will be good to have this site to get us through the total process and know exactly what he will be doing and what is expected not only from him, but from us. I look forward to meeting you.

Sharon
