For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

We did the 14 1/2 drive up...my husband refuses to fly! We stayed at Navy Lodging, which I highly recommend!! They are less than a mile from where PIR takes place. The rate is around $65 per night with 2 queen beds and a kitchette. You do NOT pay any additional taxes on the rate so you literally pay $65 per night. We had no trouble driving onto base for PIR. We had been warned about lines for searching cars but back in January, they did not inspect our car and flagged us right in. We had a GPS and had no trouble gettting through Chicago traffic to get to GL. However, on Saturday when we went to see the sights, we took the train into Chicago rather than driving and having to worry about parking. Train station is right there near base and round trip ticket into Chicago was something like $7. Navy Lodging can provide you a map showing where to park for the train station as well as showing you where to go for PIR on Friday morning. Staff at Navy Lodging was Top Notch!!
