23 more days ! before we know it, we will be proud moms/families of sailors !
Can you believe it? I can't wait to go to Great Lakes! We are at 5 weeks tomorrow from when T left, and it is the longest I have ever gone without seeing him. I received another letter from him today, and it is great to just hear from him. Seeing him will be spectacular!
I hear you - loud and clear! I got one too. I think he feeling a little home sick after this last letter. Still sounds like he is doing okay but not quite as upbeat as the other two. It sounds like they will be really busy over the next week or so hopefully that will speed things up for him. Anyone heard from their recruit on when battlestations are? From what I understand, we get the phone call right after that? We're on the home stretch for this journey - hang in there everyone!
T said in his letter that it is really getting harder, but that they are doing "real" sailor stuff. He also said that he had to "polish his boots"! I loved that! He has not told me anything about battlestations. Is this not at the end? I am curious if we are ending week five and starting 6 and if their weeks start on Sunday? Since T got there on Thursday, it has me confused. Week 6 is the gas chamber, which really gives me the screaming willies! I am praying for them to make it through! This roller coaster is really wild!
My son indicated in his letter that March 15th would be 3/5. Does that make sense? I don't get why they would only be in week 3 when they've been gone almost 5 weeks. Oh well....only one of many things I do not understand!.
I'm not sure what that means. Jon said there was just 3 1/2 weeks left til graduation which sounded about right and actually alerted me as to how close it really is! Are you on Facebook? Great Lakes Naval Station does and you can ask questions on there and they are really good at replies. Maybe try that? I know I am now finding myself almost staring at that darn count down clock as if it will go faster if I don't blink!
You know what is really funny? I check my facebook and the N4M's every morning and evening! It is almost like I am expecting my son to be on here! Reading this makes me feel closer to him, somehow and helps me realize how many are in my shoes.
Hi Everyone!

I hope it's okay that I'm here, even though I'm not a Navy mom. My daughter, Sarah, is the girlfriend of Tripp -- Betsy's son. Betsy told me about this wonderful group and told me to check it out.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts and I want you all to know that your sailors and your families are all in my prayers every day. Sarah and I are fortunate enough to be going up to Great Lakes with Betsy and her family for the April 9th graduation and we're both so excited! Though Sarah and I will most likely not be able to get in to the ceremony, we want to go to support Tripp and just let him know how proud we are of him.

My husband was a Naval Reservist and his entire family were all in the Navy, so I'm a little familiar with some of this Navy stuff! My husband and I had just started dating when he left for boot camp and it was the longest 8 weeks of my life!

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and let you all know that I'm thinking of you and your wonderful sailors!

:)
I love that you are here, Tracy! We will get to meet these wonderful mom's when we get to Great Lakes. Getting closer every day!
NIce to meet you Tracy and welcome! This site has to be the most awesome thing invented. I too was a Navy wife! I was engaged to Jon's dad when he left for bootcamp and have to admit that I really don't remember it being this difficult - I'm sure it was - just too long ago to remember. It is great that Sarah has someone who under stands what it is like to be away from someone you care so much about. It's a little different rollercoaster than us Moms are going through! I do remember how great being in the Navy was. We traveled and met so many wonderful people we are friends with to this day. It makes for great vacations all over the US! It will be wonderful to meet up with everyone on the 8th! 20 days! Woo Hoo - we're almost in the teens for the count down! Smiles!
Did anyone get a "privelege" call last night? My son called, and I missed it! He left a message saying that they had done something "right" are were allowed to call home. My heart broke to miss that call. I only missed it by seconds, but once the answering maching gets it there is no calling back. I would love to know what they had accomplished.
Betsy - A few letters ago I asked Jon if he knew who Tripper was since I was chatting with you on N4Ms. Early on he didn't know who he was but in this last letter he mentioned he figured out who he is. He said he is there AROC. His exact wording was "he's funny...he's a cool cat." I got a kick out that and thought it might bring you a smile. I just posted on the Meet n Greet that he also mentioned a rumor that guys staying in Chicago for A school might not get liberty that weekend. That would just be awful. When my exhusband graduated Navy basic he got the whole weekend so I was assuming Jon would get similiar liberties. I sure hope I get more then just Friday with him....that would just break my heart. Well I will go for now - just wanted to mention Jon's comment regarding Tripper. Talk with you soon! PS So sorry you missed his call. I didn't have any missed calls and was home all night so maybe only certain recruits were able to call. Maybe I'll get one tonight! :) That would be nice!
