Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Narvine - My son is almost finished with his 1st deployment to Afg...It has not been easy at all for me, all I can say is continue with your groups on N4M they have been so helpful.. Please always remember your son has been trained well. Also you will be praying a lot no kidding I have never prayed so much in my life !!!

Hi Navrine, my son was in Afghanistan until recently, and I know you are scared. It was scary for us to. Make sure he fills out his contact paperwork with you listed, so if he is ever injured there are no worries there. The best thing for me was to find other parents and talk to them. Also, to remember there will be frequent lapses between contact, so be prepared for this.Also know that the marines are a super bunch of guys and are very well trained and will protect your son. They really love their "docs" and take care of them safety wise.
I kept a prayer list of other marines in his battalion and of his corpsman friends and that helped, I know God is listening. There is also a web page for his battalion and that has updates news and photos, too.
It helped me to read the news and look at photos, but some moms say they just cant. Also helped me to transfer my cell phone when I was at work so I there was little chance of me missing a call.
When my son came home he could not understand why I was so worried. LOL, he said he was fine and even told some funny stories.

My son is now in transit out of afghanistan from his 1st deployment. It has been very hard but by the grace of the Lord, my son and I, both have made it this far. He will be there for at least another twelve days before leaving back to his base station in okinawa, he is presently in a holding pattern until they start moving slowly again. My only advice is to stay steadfast in prayer and to keep him uplifted by the Word of God, throughout his time there. I never imagined that my son would ever be in a place where I could not be there to protect him but rather having him there to protect me and all of us. My son is my hero, already and I have reminded him,over and over again, do nothing heroic, just do your job, because he is my express joy and only son, and that no medal will ever or could ever replace having him in my life. My son needed me to be as strong as possible to help him through this time in his career and military deployment, and I would venture to say the same for your Son. Your best help to your Son is to help keep him focused on his good life at home and how joyful it will once again be, when he returns home to his family. Continue to let him know how strongly you back his decision to join the military and appreciate what he is doing for us all. Stay blessed and my continued prayers for both, you and your Son.

My son leaves for Afghanistan with the 5th Anglico Marines next month. Gloria, nbobbiesok, and mikes mom, thank you for your great advice. It's going to help me get through the next 8 months.

My son is in A-stan as well. Hang out with us and we'll keep each other going. As you can see from reading the posts, this is a very supportive - and funny- group! Keep yourself busy writing letters & sending packages to your Corpsmen and getting things done around the house, whatever you can do that's positive. My church is holding a benefit to collect items for my son's Company and my sister's high school is doing the same. We will have loads of stuff to send to hundreds of Marines and sailors.

Powdered Gatorade (comes in the tubes like Pixie Sticks) to add to their water
Dried fruit and veggies - Trader Joes has wonderful varieties of dried fruit and I just found dried Green Beans!
Beef and turkey Jerkey
Slim Jims
Nuts, hard candy (like Jolly Ranchers), granola bars (stay away from Chocolate - it melts)
Sun Screen and Lip balm with a high SPF
WISP disposable toothbrushes by Colgate - much better than sending toothpaste
Duct tape in Flat Grey - not the shiny kind! - they use duct tape a lot!
AA Batteries
baby wipes - the sand there is like dust and it's almost impossible to get out of hair, eyebrows, etc.
Girl Scout cookies (and Trader Joes sells Walkers Shortbread which is great!)
Canned meat like Underwood Deviled ham and chicken
Tuna kits - the vacuum-sealed tuna lunch kits
LETTERS! CARDS!! -
