jw no you dont have a military id. Only the active and reserve military will have those and dependants. Im not sure if they get it this early or if they have to wait till he graduates.....i will find out. I was looking at tickets myself and the cheapest i can find them is $269 a piece. And his letter just said that he will have liberty for friday, sat and sunday. Being a single parent i dont have a clue how im going to pay for all that, but if there is a will there is a way...lol
Hi jwalsh - The letter we recieved also had the "Ship 14 USS Arizona, Div 187" on it, but the recruiter gave me the address without it, as well as the form letter, the Navy site and about.com - here is to hoping they are right and the ship name is not needed. In her letter she said that she had not recieved any of our letters yet, but said they were supposed to start rolling in this week. My husband was in the Navy (San Diego bootcamp 1983) and said that they did not deliver mail for the first three weeks - said they really wanted your undivided attention. I am praying for a call tomorrow - then we will really know if she has gotten any. Keep our fingers crossed! It is great to talk with others whos kids are going through the same thing - Thanks for writting back - and best of wishes to your Jessica!
Thank you sooo much - you don't know how happy I am to hear that my letters may have been held back but will be delivered to Jess next week. Jess also wrote her Dad and said "boot camp is hard but she is trying her best" and that she is a little behind in meeting her requirements. Can your husband fill me in on that - when will I know if she is definitely graduating on the 14th or that the date has been changed? I am trying to make my plans for the flight and hotel but as I told Lynn, refundable tickets cost a lot more then purchasing non-refundable. Have a great day and I hope your prayer is answered.

Thanks again,
Jackie
We are doing the drive (just about 6 hours for us). However, I have found that the southwest, followed by Air-Tran are best for lowest price tickets, and southwest is best for not charging a fee to change tickets, I often find that a refundable ticket is almost a much as two non-refundable tickets. Keep in mind, they say that once they are past week three, that chance of a set-bet is minimal, so after this next week, our kids are pretty much set for the 5/14 PIR.
Thank you to everyone responding - you have no idea how much you are helping me and I really do appreciate it. I think I would have gone half mad it not for this website and all you. I am flying from Savannah to O'hare and I did see a flight from United Airlines (direct) for $408 including the insurance - now I don't know if they will honor the change in date but I will call and find out. Money is always an issue, hate to say it, but this is why my daughter joined. Please don't get me wrong serving your country is a great honor but this economy is not helping any of us. My daughter requested stationery. I am not sure how much to send and I want you to know it is really hard to find statinery these days lol. If you have any suggestions please let me know. And again, thank you for helping me.

Jackie
Yes after reading Aarons letter i am going to have to consider driving as well from Atlanta to there, which i was told is about 11 to 12 hour drive. He said in his letter that he will get fri, sat and sunday but has to check back in everynight. Does anyone know if this is true? I was only counting on a hotel for thurs and fri night but now knowing this it has made me think that i need to drive and take the money on the plane tickets to put towards the hotel. Not to mention at least i wont have to rent a car if we drive. I wish they would allow them to purchase the tickets with a military discount, but i know thats out of the question.

Lynn
Hi Lynn, everything I have read shows that they are not allowed to stay off base at night, but will have leave up to 9 or 10 pm. As for what nights to book, we were at a delima - you just don't know if your sailor is going to be a grad and go, or there for a few days until they get thir orders in week 7. My daughter is going to A school in California, and she could be leaving as early as Friday night, or as late as Sunday night. As a result we booked a room for Thursday night through Sunday morning, and went directly throught the hotel website witch allows you to cancel without penilty up to 4 pm the night of arrival. The secret is to book the rooms one night at a time, or call to ensure that you are not penilized if you cut your stay short. If you use sites like hotel.com, or travelocity, then typically the room is pre-paid with no refund. We found a homewood suites just 11 miles from base for $75 a night - its a bit higher, but then we have a bigger room for visiting with our daughter, and a full hot breakfast
I finally got a (short) letter from my son yesterday - he said he passed the first fitness test and the swim test, but was struggling a bit with PT and folding (lol). Does anyone know what PT is or what is involved?
pt is the physical training, all the exercising where they have to do so many sit ups run a certain distance in a certain amount of time, pull up etc....how long has your son been there? Aaron didnt mention nothing but the pt was hard his body was sore everyday but he still has to do IT...
Finally got a good call! Rob passed whatever he had to pas (up to this point) and even passed his locker inspection - his group/team (?) got the flag and I'm guessing that's good news. What a relief to hear his voice and not hear as much stress in it - he said he still hates it, but he's pretty sure that's the point (lol). Now I can sleep...
I also got a my first call Jessica, well actually I missed the first call. Then I call her Dad who had already spoken to her and missed the second call. I was crying at that point and just praying that she would try to call me one more time and SHE DID!!! We were both crying at this point, but Jesscia sounded really good and she said things were going well. She missed her PAS?? I think that was the abbeviation she used, by one second. She lost three inches from her waist, had root-canal done and got new millitary glasses. But she did say she was having fun lol - I think they made her say this!!! She didn't care for the food and only likes to eat the P&J sandwiches, which statisfy her craving for sweets - now you know why she needed the root-canal lol. I am really happy and relieve to know Jessica is doing well but now I have to tape my cell phone to my arm.

Have a great day everyone!!!
Has anybody heard anything lately? Some people on another forum suggested it might be hell week for their division and they have the same PIR date...
