My son left California (L.A.) and, finally, arrived at the base late last night (4/14/10). He is very worried about doing a good job. I told him to just get through it.

I would like to stay in touch with any of you, especially those whose son or daughter arrived on 4/14/10. My heart is heavy and I wish all these kids the strength and heart to push through to the other side.

Prayers all goes great for him. My son arrived Monday night. God Bless your sailor to be
Thank you. I'm saying prayers for you and yours too. Please reach out at any time.
Hi Tess,

My husband just left for boot camp and arrived on the 14th REALLY early in the morning. It's been hard not knowing exactly what going on and trying to keep myself busy to pass the time. We have a 3 and a half year old and an almost 2 year old. They keep me busy but I'm looking for more to do. Any ideas? I pray everyday at multiple time that God will help get us through. Have received anything from your son? I'm anxious to receive his package they are sending home of his belongings.

Claudia
Hi Claudia. I haven't received anything yet. Only the address which I asked the recruiter for. Have you rec'd an address yet? I know we aren't supposed to post them and I don't want to lead you astray, but I think your recruiter should have it. My son said something about the box and that I would get another phone call in three weeks.I know he is probably terrified but you know what, so is everyone else. Even if they don't show it. I feel so bad for you, on your own with the kids and without your husband. One thing I can tell you, is this: "No news is good news". This is what the recruiters told me. I have heard stories and seen videos (youtube) about how stressful and hard this process is. It's hard to think that someone we love and respect so much is getting yelled at. But your husband will think of you and your children and that will get him through. Hold onto that and write to me whenever you want to. Sometimes it helps just to write all your thoughts and worries down and send them. Stay in touch and BELIEVE! Everything will be okay! Tess
Claudia, I was just thinking....why not take a little time (if you can find it) to write a letter about how you feel to your husband, each day. Then, when you get an address you can send them to him. Nothing replaces your connection with him (not even Navy for Moms) and maybe it will feel like you are connecting with him if you take a few quiet moments to write down your thoughts and feelings about him. In the meantime, in my next letter to my son, I will ask if he knows your husband. I'm sure there are a lot of recruits that came in on that night but not every guy there has two kids aged 3 and almost 2! Give me his first name if you want and I'll ask. Can't hurt to try. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Tess, That is really sweet! Thank you! I'd really appreciate that. His name is Andrew. I have been writing him letters in my journal to kind of feel him in for the day and at a point I have to stop because it makes me just want to fall apart and I can't do that. I know he'll be okay can't wait for this process to be over. Your son left from California? My husband left from Phx. It's amazing to see how many people are feeling the same way I am out there. It's makes you really treasure what you have :)
Hello Tess,
My son left and arrived on April 14th...I got that "I'm here" phone call...but the recruiter told us we would get the address from T before he did...so now it's the sit and wait game! Can't wait to hear all about what is going on...he was so excited and nervous when he left...we're from FL...so I agree...what a diverse group! Very exciting for our recruits...how often will they get to meet people from all over, except here!

A mom I met at the swearing in told me that for the most part, I would be fine...but every now and then the tears would just flow. It's true and it's totally normal! (thus the nervous breakdown I had leaving Target the other night or watching a BC PIR Video) So hang in there! In the meantime...I'm Olga...let's keep in touch!
Hi Olga,
Thank you so much for responding. I know exactly what you are saying. There is some comfort in knowing that these guys are there together. Wouldn't it be something if they knew each other already?! My son was very nervous when he left. He wants to do well but I'm sure that most of these guys (and girls) are just in shock for the first week or two. I've just been writing to him to tell him to just feel a sense of accomplishment when each day is over. My favorite time of the day now is about 8PM (pacific time) when I can feel a little calmer imagining him being able to just lay is head down on the pillow and get some sleep. I realize that it may not be interrupted sleep, but I feel more peaceful just thinking about that. I hope that, while the days are dragging by here, the days are flying by there for them. Stay in touch and please let me know if you hear anything. I'm praying and sending positive thoughts to all of them! Tess
Thank you for the positive thoughts...and I have to think that their day is going by fast...they probably don't have time to truly think about anything except what they are expected to do. I too am keeping myself busy, and it seems to help. Just think...we are already on day 5! Luckily, I can also equate it to my school (I teach) and we only have 37 work days left...lol...and if my calculations are correct...that would mean I get to see him right after our last day of school. I'm excited! I've seen some of the PIR info and it sounds so touching and moving! I literally sobbed! Out of pure pride! Our boys will be sailors shortly, defending our country! How cool is that! Anyway...thank you for your response...it's nice getting to know other moms. What state are you from?
I Olga. I live in California, Los Angeles area. I'm excited too but I'm so afraid of being too confident. I'll feel better as the days go by and I don't hear from him (no news is good news)! Just seems like anything can happen! I have sent a letter every day and so have other family members. I hope he's getting them. Then again, he might get tired of my "motivational speeches". I think I sound like Dr. Phil in my letters sometimes :)

Yes, day 5. You are probably right. I'll bet the days are going by very quickly for them. Hope so. The days here are just dragging by here. The tears come easily to me too. I'm sure that it will be tough to find a dry eye at graduation. I have my fingers crossed that we will all be together at the PIR ceremony. It would be fun to meet after all this!
California...I have a sister and two nieces in Cathedral City...I've never been, luckily they come and visit and we see them over the summer in Maine...(more family). As for PIR...oh yes, dry eyes will definitely be hard to find...I simply watched a short clip of PIR and just watching the other parents, I fell apart! It wasn't pretty! lol

From what I can tell, they have a parent meet and greet sometimes the night before PIR...maybe we can put something together with other parents? Who knows...just trying to keep my mind occupied!

We made it to Day 6! I have found myself thinking back to what he and I were doing at this time last week...and then I think, the time went fairly quickly, I can do this...and then at other times, I miss him so much and I fall apart! Ugh! Oh well...part of being a mom!

How old is your boy? T is 19...I have two other children 12 and 15...they grow so fast! My poor daughter said that she can tell from my reaction to T's leaving, that she is going to be in deep trouble when my second child leaves...she swears I won't let her out of my sight! She's probably right!

Anyway...have a wonderful Tuesday!
A parents' (grandparents', aunts', uncles' etc) meet and greet the night before is a wonderful idea. I figure it will just be me, my mother and my younger son at the PIR and we will plan to get there the day before. It isn't easy for me to get time off work but I'm counting on getting there in plenty of time to allow for any miscommuications or mix ups.

I have a son who is 10 years old and a daughter who is 32 (had her when I was 3 years old :), with a husband and kids of her own! That'll age you. My daughter has always been very independent. My boys, not as much. My recruit is 22. Yes, they grow up fast. Don't worry, they'll keep coming back though --with spouses, kids of their own.

So, yes, the first week is coming to an end. I keep telling my son that things will get easier. It's a huge adjustment for all of us. Anyway, keep in touch. I'm so glad to hear from you. Take care of yourself. It'll be Wednesday soon!
