I have not hear of anything called "Hell Week" associated with Naval boot camp. Heard some Marines call a week of boot camp that, and I know navy seals go through a "Hell Week" in their later training, but nothing like that with Naval boot camp. I think at one point they used to have what they called service week, where the recruits would get jobs doing duties for other units... cooking, helping with P Week, et., but it was found that it was not beneficial to the training other than making sure you worked and played well with others in the job line - so it was replaces with more fire-arms and classroom training. As for hearing from anyone... we got a letter last Wednesday and she was in great spirts. Said that one RDC's was coming down a bit on her (another life lesson - don't ever say " I don't know how"), but otherwise, things were well. She had one friend that was set back a week which made her sad. In addition, she gave us names of two people that had not gotten any mail since the start of boot camp. We sent letters to each of those recruits this past week as well. I can not imagine having to go through this and not have a connection to the outside in some form. It would even be harder to see others getting correspondence. Please make sure to ask your sons or daughters if they have friends in similar positions - you might make a difference in helping the unit morale!
Thanks - I did speak to Rob last week and he sounded fine - just being nervous I guess, I'm still not used to having so little contact with him, apparently I never will since he's almost half-way through...
Ok... I stand corrected... We received a letter from Jessica yesterday that referred to "Hell Week" - Said it was called Hell Week because of the number of inspections and PTF's or something like that.

Question... Jessica keeps referring to people getting "asmoed" - anyone know what that means?

Another Question - Jessica claims to have a friend in boot camp from Columbus - but did not mention Ohio... Anyone have recruits in 187 from Columbus Ohio area?
I don't know what that means, but Rob mentioned in his last letter that it was so tough and his division and brother division were so chatty - which meant punishment - that they were losing 2 recruits a day - I am away from home right now so I haven't received anything new since last week...
Hi fibelmail - I talked to my son tonight and asked him about getting "asmoed", he said it meant being either put back or "kicked out" (his words, not mine!) he said either way not good.
Hello so glad I found this my son is on this ship and division, Iam kinda new to this enternet thing so it took me this long to get access I recieved a letter yesterday march 22,2010 he mentioned hell week and that it should get easier and battlestations 21 but didnt say when that would be. Looking forward to seeing him may 14, 2010. hope we have a meet and greet before graduation. Will be flying out from California Sacramento May 11,2010 red eye like 10:30 at nite. staying till May 18, 2010 another red eye , hoping to see some of chicago since I have never been . He will be going to A school their at GL.
I am coming in Thursday night and can only stay until Monday aftrnoon - job :( - Rob did mention that he was going to A school there and would begin on Wednesday. Have you heard anything else from your daughter regarding graduation? I have heard nothing for two weeks...
Hi, My daughter, Dara, is on SHIP 14, DIV 187. We’re from San Bernardino County (the High Desert area) it’s about 2 ½ hours from Los Angeles. We will be flying out of Ontario, CA, which is only 45mins away, on Thursday and flying into O’Hare. We are returning Monday (05/17). Dara says she is not Grad n Go. She will be going to “A” and “C” school in Pensacola, FL. We are very excited about seeing her on May 14!!

The last we have heard from Dara was a letter we received Thursday, April 15 it was dated Easter Sunday. We did get an official phone call home on Tuesday, April 13. She sounded in okay spirits. She is working as a Ship Staff, one who meets and greets, cleans and colors (flag). Since we have not heard anything lately am taking it as a good sign. Am sure their all working very hard on getting themselves prepared for BattleStation 21.
Ladies (and Gentlemen)... Just 14 days, 17 hours and 16 minutes until we see our Sailors! Not that anyone is counting down the minutes... or missing thier kid like we are, but wanted to share!
Finally got a letter! All is right with the world! 14 Days...
We got a call last night... from what I heard every one got a chance to call. It was so great to hear our daughters voice and she sounded really upbeat and positive. Just to think that we will be watching them at PIR at this time in two weeks.... very exciting! She told us chances of getting set back now are very slim for the group, and that the team seems to have their act together. Someone it the group stepped on her in the last run resulting an ankle injury, but she is keeping it low key because she swears that everyone who goes to medical ends up getting set back. She said they have not done the gas chamber yet, but finished shooting this week. So it sounds like gas chamber, fire fighting and battle stations are pretty much it... oh and of course final PFA.
Well hello everyone, yes it looks as if we all recieved a phone call....WOOO HOOOO...god my baby sounded so good, actually was able to talk for over 30 minutes....I can not wait to see him. He was asking me all kinds of questions about other moms on here. He said one name but i cant remember who it was, he said that i had been talking to his mom..lol..isnt this just great all of us having this special connection together but yet we are all so far away from one another? Anyway he said it would be best if we used last names cause of the common first names..lol...so my sons name is Christmas..i know that one will be easy for you to remember. He said that there is alot of people gone for his division and they keep leaving every day to go back home. He said it sucks there but it sounded like he actually likes it...lol..

So i think we all should get togehter in Chicago since we will be there all weekend. Have dinner and drinks and celebrate this MILESTONE we are having!!!! Wow it is just amazing of all the emotions you go through experiencing such a wonderful thing :-)

He also was able to tell me that he will be leaving the following thursday after graduation for his A school, pensacola fla. My son is going for AM(aircraft mechanic). He will be doing that for 5 weeks then gets to come home for 2 weeks and will have his duty station. One of the places could be Guam..wooo hoo...thats where my dad lives...how awesome is that. I will have two of my peoples in the same place. My dad has been trying to get me to move out there with me and my son but i told him it was too far on the otherside of the world, but who knows now. I just might!!!

Anyways i know i am just rambling on and on but i just can not wait to meet everyone of you. if you want to contact me on yahoo or facebook just let me know, I already have a couple of friends on there that are from here and its really great. sweetlc1970@yahoo.com. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. PS i am so excited about the graduation date as well because i will be the big 40 on the 7th and of course mothers day....best birthday gift and mom day i could ever have!
love you all and you are in my prayers everyday!
