Just got news that my daughter who left for boot camp on April 7th is on Ship 6 Division 929.  Any other moms, dads, boyfriends, girlfriends, wives, etc., out there with someone in this group?

Hi Kathy, My son is a drummer also and I didn't get a call so I guess he didn't win! LOL ! Are you also staying at the Sleep Inn in Lake Bluff? Do you know which airport in the best bet in the area for PIR on 6/4? Lotsa questions I know! Have a great day Joe's Mom Janis Ship 6/ Div 929
Janis,
My son actually isn't a drummer. He was a clairnet player in his schools bands for 12 years. The high school band he had been in had a very good drumline and I think hearing the drum-off the other day took him back to his past. He thought he was ready to move on from band but I don't think he quite realizes yet how much music will always be a part of his life. His dad was a clarinet player in the Amy band and is still a part time musician. Our son is carrying a flag at PIR. So...now he's color guard! A little band parent irony. :-) From his letter I think he's happy to be back in a marching format after a semester off.

I may not be the best person to offer advice on the airport situation for GL. What I can tell you is that O'Hare is outside of Chicago but is hectic. Midway is my family's choice, if possible, but it's in town. There may be better options that I don't know about. We're driving so I haven't looked into flying. You might post your question on the PIR 6/4/2010 site.
Kathy
Happy Mothers Day!!
We only have 25 days left. Does anyone know if there is a meet n greet before PIR??
Thanks Kelly
Mackezie's Mom, I've seen it posted on the PIR 6-4-2010 group that there is one at the Ramada on Thursday evening but I don't know what time.
Thank you I will try to find it. Are you attending the pir?
Oh yes! I was being pretty calm about it until today but 25 days left (and it being Mother's Day) is making me a jittery mess. I may have read your info before but what is your recruit doing for PIR?
Mine's carring the Arkansas flag.
Trying to find a mom named Heather whose daughter is in ship 6 division 929. Your daughter is my daughter's bunkmate, and she says in every letter how she couldn't get through this without the support and encouragement of the other young women in her group. I just wanted to say thank you! If you don't feel comfortable writing back, that's fine. Hopefully we'll be able to meet at the PIR or at the Ramada Inn meet and great before PIR. Again, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of the moms on here for all of your support and guidance. Alison
Hi Alison, its nice to actually talk to someone with a daughter on the same div929 ship06.Laurin has written about her bunkmate "Costa" also and how nice she is.I'm so happy our girls have eachother to push them through! looking forward to meeting you also.Thank you !!! Heather
Heather,
How nice that the two of you moms have found each other. My son and Alison's daughter figured out who they each were from our letters. David hasn't really mentioned what his rack mate is like. Do you know what Laurin is doing during PIR? He mentioned that he was doing watch Sunday night, might get a couple hours nap and then get rousted at 0400 for hell week. Today was supposed to be live weapons qualifying. This was the fist day I actually felt like I knew what he was doing. I wonder if they get any outside news. Right now I hope not since our state has been haveing it's share of scary weather. I wouldn't want him to be worrying about us. The weather must be nice in you're area now. Enjoy!
Hello,kathyjean & Alison :)
I received another letter today and my daughter has had all 5.0's on inspections and passed her pfa's again last week w/ a better score that the first time & passed her live fire tests! I'm so proud of their division they really are a great group.Laurin said her & her bunkmate recieved their packages on the same day w/toothpaste and stationary she said they said thank you very much!
So I'm not sure if you've heard but their division was chosen from the entire base to perform at the Armed Forces Ball in Chicago! She was so excited to be able to wear their dress whites and leave base,oh yeah & pluck her eyebrows lol.AnywayI'm looking forward to PIR thoughts and prayers are with you :)
Heather,

When is (was) the Armed Forces Ball? How exciting for them! I'm so jealous that your girls are better writers than David! :) His dad says "chill Mother!" lol He, on the other hand is anxious to hear how the gas chamber goes. I just don't think we're going to have enough time to get all the talking in PIR weekend!

Kathy
Hi Kathy,
I know how boys are & how hard it is to get them to write.I will ask Laurin about him :) She wrote her last letter on the 13th and said "tomorrow" they were headed to Chicago & how excited they all were. What a great experience for them!! I havent heard anything either about the gas chambers :/ if I do i will be sure to let you know k
