I know we are all busy and writing a long letter can sometimes take
longer then we want it to so i thought compiling a list of some fun
things you can print and send to your sailor would be a good thing.

Comic strips. easy to print and slip in an envelope.
Fav TV show synopsis. my son has 2 favorite shows, the day after the
show airs, you can print off the text for that episode and mail it to
them! A nice 2 or 3 minute distraction!
Jokes. there are a lot of funny military jokes on the internet you can
print and mail. Be careful to not include any  jokes that are sexual in
nature, or that might offend ANYONE.
Internet news clips.  print off stories about your town or something
they would like to hear about. IE. if your sailor is a huge baseball
fan, send them info about their team. easy to print off also.

that's all i got for now, please add to the list!

(As far as i know, these are all items that recruits can receive, if i
am mistaken, please post correction!)

I used to add pics to my letters....adding as in printing them on the letter itself....
All those are great ideas.....did a lot of that sorta thing too....
All very good ideas....just remember that they have very little storage space so don't send anything too bulky.
You are nice--we were cruel--we went to Taco Bell and got a clean unused food wrapper and put it in one of our letters. But yes, I did all the above too.
That is too funny!
I always sent the Cubs scores, i know he like that.
Well this isnt something to send but not send and that are postcards! lol My daughters Gma sent her one that read "DONT MESS WITH TEXAS" (being a proud Texan) with the usual sentiments on the reverse side saying how proud of her we are. She received it just fine but her chief decided it was one to share with everyone at mail call. Need I say how embarrased she was and her next call was pleading to tell gma NO MORE POST CARDS please. Not to mention she had to deal with a new nick name besides shory, tiny and others because she was the smallest one in her division. I found it amusing but she didnt at all. I still laugh when I think back.
When our son was in boot camp (just a few weeks ago) we sent him clippings of all of his favorite sports. Not only did he enjoy them, he was able to share them with his shipmates. He said one of his favorite times of the day was mail call because when he saw the manila envelope from home he knew there would be something in there to catch up on.
I've sent 2 that were 8 x 10. Of course i haven't heard yet if he actually got them, but they have not come back to me either..?
Something else we found somewhere on this wonderfully, helpful site that I thought was neat, was screen prints of their facebook page. Tell all their friends to keep posting and sending encouraging notes, then print them off and send them to your recruit.
In one of my letters, I included an extra letter from his fish! Something from the dog or cat would work too....
I have found out that the recruits get mail monday thru friday ( not like it use to be years ago) so i have decided to send a letter every day if i can. a few more things i have come up with...

the entire sunday comics page.
Origami figures ( can he guess what it is?)
just a few more to add to the list!
printing his facebook page is awesome! I will have to see about doing that!
for deployments thats great, but don't send these things in boot camp!
