I was chomping at the bit to get our tickets and when we got the first letter from him and when his PIR date was then I got on the computer the next day and got all of it taken care of. After he leaves we plan on continuing down to Springfield, IL with our younger son for a short little family vacation.
My son name is Will (we call him by his middle name Tyler) but he goes by Will. He will be going to A School for Hospital Corpsman..anyone else loved one going as well?
My husband is in this division, too. Less than 4 weeks to go, hooray!
Meet and greet? I won't have a car when I am there, and I'll be staying at the Days Inn about a mile away from the base. My boyfriend is Ship 11 Div 216, and I am really excited to see him. Anybody else staying at the Days Inn?? I already booked my room for four days, maybe will add another day.
Hi I love Thomas would u like to attend the Meet N Greet if so my family and I could come by and pick you up, and u can ride with us. I get in Chicago at 2:15 and my son's girlfriend gets in at 3:__ something we could come by and pick u up if you like. Leave me a message and then we can set something up.
To other people in this division, what days have you booked your flights for? I'm unsure of when to return home! And why do they black out the Navy symbol on the evevlope?
I'm flying in to Chicago on the evening of the 10th, and then we're leaving on Monday morning, the 14th. And I don't understand blacking out the symbol on the envelopes, either. I mean, it is NO secret where the letters are coming from, because the return address isn't exactly in code :P

Have you looked into getting a car? I've been reading stuff in the PIR advice forums, and it sounds like public transportation is not necessarily cheaper than a car, and certainly not as convenient. Won't you guys want to go see the sights while you're in town and he's a "free" man?
They blackout the symbols on the envelopes because it messes with the post office's machines and it takes mail longer to get to where it's going.
I've been thinking...could it be that they "blackout" the symbol because they aren't TRUE navy sailors yet? That just occurred to me...Thoughts?
Britt, I would love to get a car, but I am too afraid to drive in an unfamiliar place, sadly. I'd love to go out with him and drive everywhere, but I am just not comfortable, I suppose. Do you think leaving the 14th is enough time and do you think they'll leave the 14th for sure? I'm so conflicted, because I just don't know if I should buy the ticket for the 14th returning or 15th, but I know I need to buy it tonight!! Ty's mom, I just received a letter (he keeps sending two stamps when he only needs one) and he wrote in the letter "I'm now officially a sailor, which I thought wouldn't be until next week, maybe. But it's a good theory that you have! My friend is one week ahead of my boyfriend, though, and his first letter wasn't blacked out where the symbol is. Who knows? I tried researching, silly me.
Same here!! I got a letter yesterday from my son Tyler, he said this week is "h***" week but was ready to get it over with. Hope they all do well!
My Son, Wade is in this division too -we have got lots of letters and 1 phone call . I too am a little confused about this PIR -I hear it is a wonderful celebration , but we haven't received tickets? yet -not sure what that is about or where we get them. We are still looking for a place to stay , traveling by car from Ohio -any suggestions? Also a little confused as to how mcuh liberty he have -he is doing Master of Arms in Texas and not sure when he will be leaving.
