Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

When your sailor finishes MM "A" school, he or she will have the rate of "machinist mate". You may consider ordering a commemorative coin to celebrate the event at https://store.nwtmint.com/product_details/1112/Navy_Machinist_s_Mat... It can be engraved with the sailor's name. It costs $20 with engraving and shipping.
Also, upon graduation from MM "A" school, they earn the rank of E-4 (Navy Petty Officer Third Class). You can order a coin for that at https://store.nwtmint.com/Navy/Rank/2 . Same price but shipping costs are combined. -

Hey, Zazzws, I talked to Erica today. She says she sees her classmates all the time--and that they are pretty close. (She was wondering what your son's name is.) She told me that when she "runs" on the elliptical, her legs tire out quickly because she's using different muscles than she's used to. I think that means the new shoes may be helping (physical therapy sent her to a running shoe store where they match your running problem with a proper shoe). I hope she sticks with it. I hope I'll be wanting to buy one of those MM coins sometime down the line here.

my son is 1028 A. I was supposed to get to have him over for dinner last night but he had to cancel because of responsibilities on base. I was really disappointed. I can only imagine what it will be like when he is at sea. Not looking forward to that. Hopefully he will get liberty this weekend and can come visit me at his grandparents house here in Charleston. It is hard to not get to see him when I thought we had it all planned out but I guess he belongs to the Navy now and not me :( I am a sad mom tonight.

I did not hear from him all day yesterday but as he told me "mom, that is the nature of the beast around here." He was going to come for dinner tonight but has watch or something like that. He called it something different. I am hopeful that he will phase up and spend the weekend with us since it is father's day. It is so hard to not be "in charge" of my son anymore. Of course he is almost 22 but sure seems to have grown up fast in the last 4 1/2 months. He says and does things that I had been trying to get him to do for 21 years. He has also however, taught me the true meaning of "cussing like a sailor!" I might have to wash his mouth out with soap this weekend! Believe it or not, my mother actually did that to me a couple of times. It really did work too!

Hey Ladies
So glad to have stumbeled over this site. Recognise Lion55s mom from bootcamp. My name is Amy. I find I get my best information on this site and very little from my son. Perhaps that's as it should be. As you say it is really really hard not to be in charge of my son. I also agree w/ someone who said she misses the letters. In this age of huge technology when communication is so available, I just don't get so much as I would like from my kid. Guess that's age appropriate. Wondering how I will deal w having a grown up son when he come to visit next month. What do you think, can I give him a curfew? you know, I can't sleep until he comes home. -

Hi Amy! I learned a lot about what goes on in Goose Creek and could type a really long post. I was there several times over the course of the month and let me tell you the Navy has accomplished in my son much of what I had been trying to do for 21 years! Ask questions and I will be happy to share. There was a parking lot where I would wait for him to appear from a wooded path so I didn't see much of the base but learned a lot about their days are like and the phases they go through to gain liberty privileges, etc. They have a bowling alley and bar right there on base! hmmmm
