I got my son's box today too! Yeah! I even took pictures of it! I saw a UTube video of recruits packing, taping, etc their boxes for shipping...so I imagined Alex readying his box.....so that was picture worthy for me. (grin). One week under their belts now! Yeah! Your box opening story was great. I was prepared and excited to get our box.
billys mom, Thanks for the laugh about the "messy" box. Our box was stuffed full and I thought I am glad his feet aren't that big or his shoes wouldn't have fit in. He took books for the airport and flight, his ipod, phone, toiletries, etc. He knew it would all get sent back, but he had to stay over night before MEPS and before he flew out. I'm glad you got the address and mailed your journal. I think I will check out you tube to see if I can see the box-packing pictures.
I got "the box' today too. Somehow, it was comforting. His pants looked as though he had just stepped out of them inside the box. No folding involved. I'm looking forward to getting his address.
Our box came today!!! Actually he sent it to his girlfriends house, but she called me to share the moment. I still haven't recieved the form letter but I called the recruiter today and left a message, hopefully he gets back to me soon with the address. I'm not crying as much as I had been, Last night I was making tacos for supper, I started to ask my daughter to run to the store for hot sauce, then I remembered my son wasn't here to use it, so I started tearing up. Sometimes I feel down right silly, he had to grow up sometime and I'm sure he is doing just fine.
YES, MY SON LEFT FOR BOOT CAMP JUNE 2ND AND I RECIEVED THE BOX TODAY. HOW ABOUT YOU?
We also got the box.
Funny story. I was sitting out back when my daughter in law yelled to me, "TJ'S BOX IS HERE" The excitement was un containable in her voice. I went sprinting up to the box. We were so excited. Like he was going to be in it. His cell phone was in it and he took pictures. There was one he took of himself holding a sign that said I miss you. It was great. I hugged his sneaker. LOL We now cant wait for the info pack that should be here soon.
Last night I wrote:
This is the dumbest thing you ever did to me, but I guess it is the smartest thing that you have ever done for you .I will get even with you for this. Maybe I will stay with you for a month when you are stationed somewhere and drive you crazy.
Hi all,

I've joined this site and written so many times I don't know if I've even spoken to any of you yet......probably......jeez -- do you think my brain will actually start functioning again anytime soon??? If so - hello again -- if not -- hello I'm Lace -- My son flew from Spokane wedneday morning June 2nd -- I got the "I'm here" call that night a bit after 11pm. "The box" arrived Monday -- and I did great! No honestly...... I really did......... Until..............lol.....I'd read earlier in N4m that mom's call that getting "your kid in a box" without the kid...I shared that with my husband when he arrived home from work.......he hugged me and said.......they did send your kid in a box back to you....they just kept the man........double dang drat it......I hadn't cried until then...........lol......I haven't had any luck with our recruiter finding his address for me early -- just waiting for the form letter in the mail - will keep you all posted -- please let me know if any of you get your form letter and how long it takes!! Lace
HI there -- I've just been checking through here -- I'm pretty sure that if you know the ship and division he's in that you can get the correct address -- I'll investigate some more - I know I read that somewhere -- this site can just be a bit hard to navigate - I'll be back.......
HA! I found it -- here's the link - just copy and paste it will take you to the navy page for families and "how to contact your recruit and address your letter correctly -- at the bottom of the page are the addresses for each ship. http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/contact_recruit.asp

Hi Lace. I understand completely about the brain thing not working...My son also went June 2 @ the white sox game he was sworn in. We did get to see him and it was a little extra treat. I keep expecting to see him coming through the door in the evening. This past monday I called his recruiter and got his address. They were very helpful. He is on ship 10 div 254. I had a letter out to him on Tuesday morning. We got his box Tuesday afternoon. My family was so excited that they called me at work. We also got our letter from him on Tuesday. It was wonderul hearing from him, even if it was just a few lines. You stood out to me since you mentioned you were from Spokane. My son is 19 and has twin sisters that are 18. My daughter leaves this August for Gonzaga. How ironic that would be if our sons were in the same Division. I hope you get your letter soon along with his address. It will be in the letter. Im sure you should have it soon. We only live about 90 minutes from Great Lakes so we probably got ours quicker. Take care....Deena
Here is one of the strangest messages this site has ever received: I got a phone call from my son a few hours ago. Remember he just arrived June 3. I am not suppose to hear his voice yet. I started crying as soon as I heard his voice. He said yelled mom listen to me. I stopped and listened and this is what he said. Good news and bad news. Good I am coming home. Bad it is for good. Medical. For those of you wishing your son was home this has been a very difficult day. His dreams of being a SEAL are now gone and he is coming home to no job and in his mind no future.I am happy that I will have him home (selfish) but I have not stopped crying for his defeat.
