My son is leaving shortly before that with the Cardinal company....I think he leaves the 3rd or the 5th....How are you doing....I am proud...but very nervous and kind of afraid...my son is so sure of his decision. He is only joing the reserves. I think he would like to go full-time but out of deference to me is only doing the reserves.

Lynne
Hi, Lynne,
Our son will be heading to boot camp with a SEAL challenge contract. He is 24 and has wanted to become a SEAL since he has been 12 or13. We were hesitant at first but like he said-he doesn't want to turn 50 and look back and say he didn't even give it a try. Can't argue with that.He has been working with a SEAL motivator who trains and tests him periodically.Don't know how much info you have learned about Boot Camp and such. Check out the website www.bootcamp.navy.mil also check the videos on navy4moms. There are 2 videos about bootcamp. Let's stay in touch. Good luch to you and your son.
Hi Kate:
My son has also talked about the military since he was young, but I sort of hoped it would pass. My father died when I was young and later it was found to be due to exposure to radiation during the Korean War. So, my anxiety about this is a bit high, but like you I don't want him to not follow his dreams. He is going into Aviation Electronics. Initially he wanted Firefighting becuase he is only 5 hours from his national certification but his testing scores were too high for that..which did make me giggle...he will go for being a helicopter pilot in one year when he turns wq. I guess they will be at bootcamp at the same time...I am a little confused about this cardinal company thing...he is acutally leaving for boot almost 2 weeks early because of it. Navy Seals is very prestigious...I am sure you are very proud of your son. What is a seal challenge contract? You will have to excuse my naivity.

Lynne
Hi Lynne,
I haven't checked my messages for a few days! I was wondering about the cardinal group, too. Let me know when you find out. A seal challenge contract basically puts the recruit in the special ops division in boot camp. These recruits will live in the same "ship" or barracks. When they finish Boot camp they stay in Great Lakes for pre-bud/s which is extra time (kind of like prep-school) to be more physically fit for Bud/s. If they pass the physical training requirements for pre-bud/s, then they go to Coronado, CA for Bud/s which prepares them for actual seal training. Each step is progressively more difficult. There's no guarantee for moving from one step to the next. It has to be earned and is a rather lengthy process-not sure quite how long. Hey, we're all naive going into this! We'll just have to teach each other as we go along and find out tidbits! Have a super weekend and keep in touch!
Hi,
My son leaves for bc on 9/7. They will be there at the same time, but I don't know how (or if) they divide them up. My son also has a SEAL contract. I am very proud of him, but I also have some anxiety. I have had no experience with the military and everything is new to me.
Hi Brie,
WOW, maybe they'll be in the same ship. They call their barracks ships and if I understand correctly, those with SEAL contracts and other specops are together. Let's definitely stay in touch if they are together.

Hi Kate,
I've been "off the screen" for a while. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. Sometimes i just get so busy with work (which is alot lately) that it is hard to do anything else. Now that we're down to about a month, i know that the time will just rush on by. Let's definitely stay in touch.
Hi Brie,

No problem. I've been away from this site for a while too. Summer has been quite busy for me. Brett is so ready to head out. I can't believe it's coming so soon. Talk to you soon.
Hey Kate, good to hear from you. Yes, this summer is going by soo fast. We are having a party for our son the Sunday before he goes. It will be very bittersweet. My son is very anxious to go. I think he feels like he's just in a holding pattern and wants to get on with it.
Hi, I have just been doing some visiting on these sites lately and think I found some common threads. My 25 year old son has been pretty hush about all of this and recently "retired" from his job of 5 years and wanted to do nothing for the next month or so but dedicate himself to his workouts and readings.. Now I find out this crazy, dedicated work out of his for the past 16 months is all about a BUD/S , SEAL contract. I have absolutely no experience with the military and when he gave me a ride to our state fair yesterday I asked him to join me, my treat but he had to be somewhere?. Yep, the recruiter. Oh yeah, he also metnioned he has to give notice to the landloard and if need be, can he stay with us for no more than a week or so. Well now seeing that there is a bootcamp heading out on 9/7 I wonder. I know I said he is 25, lives on his own and so on but I have never been far from him. He is my younger son, his brother is 27 and they are great friends and hang out with the same round of friends. I wonder........thanks for 'listening' lt
Nytesail,
Nice to meet you! I understand about the SEAL contract. Brett just received his this spring and leaves for Boot Camp 9/9/10. He's been at it for a long while, too. about 2 years. He had Lasik surgery for his eyes about 2 years ago and has been working out with a SEAL motivator for quite a while. Brett is our middle of three sons. Younger one just turned 21 and older one is 27 like your older son. Perhaps our sons will be in the same graduating PIR class! Let's keep in touch.
